Mangosteen: Powder or Juice?

In my book The Top 10 Lyme Disease Treatments, http://www.defeatlyme.com, I talk about Mangosteen as being one of the best supplements for Lyme disease for many reasons, including its powerful antibiotic charcteristics. However, I mention a product in the book, Xango, which I no longer believe is the best route to take. Here’s why.

Xango has some mangosteen in it but also many other ingredients. Lots of fruit juices which have unnecessary sugar. So, I found a better brand, 100% pure mangosteen juice with NO additives - http://www.mangosteens.com. A great product, and can create a massive herx reaction.

However, for those who want the concentrated form, the powder from mangosteen pericarp (the pericarp is the outer rind, or shell, of the fruit, and has all the nutrients, and must be consumed in powder form since it is chewy and hard and can’t be eaten alone) to avoid the sugar content, I wrote the following post on the Lyme and rife group wth some additional information.

The juice itself should taste pretty good, maybe even the best
tasting fruit in the world, according to many, as it is known
as “queen of the fruits.” If the stuff you have is bad tasting, maybe
mix it with some orange juice?

Speaking of which, I am currently trying to locate some pericarp
powder (powder made from the rind of the mangosteen where all the
important xanthones and nutrients are) so that people can use the
supplement without all the sugar contained in the juices.

Personally, I would prefer the powder no matter how bad it tastes,
since I don’t like all the sugar in the juices. So far I’ve located a
few sources of the powder:

http://www.physicianformulas.com/store/scripts/prodview.asp?idproduct=219&name=Mangosteen

http://farocompany.com/

http://www.amermed.com/mangosteen.htm

http://www.vitalxan.com.au/

I had a long talk on the phone last night with the owner of the
VitalXan company in Australia, and I think his product looks pretty
good.

Most of the product websites for these items are pretty bad, bad
spelling, dysfunctional pages, so I’m not sure how that reflects on
the quality of the products.

Any comments, reports, etc., are welcomed and encouraged.

Later, I received this report from a Lyme sufferer:

Hi, All:

I took mangosteen pericarp from www.farocompany.com for a little over a month (2 caps twice a day).  I got my labs from last month and my white count went up to 6.0!!!  It has hit 5.0 once or twice in five years of treatment, and usually is 3.0 to 4.0.  (”Normal” is 4.0 to 11.0)

My doctor believes that it “woke up” my immune system.  Yea, God!!!!

Blessings,

Bonnie

Pretty neat! I plan to include this update in a later version of my Lyme disease annual reports.

I also made a video that reviews some mangosteen products:

I am fed up with MULTIPLE Physicians that I’ve seen not believing me. I was treated for 4 years for MS up until this past year when I questioned if it was MS and so did a doctor I was seeing but, wanted among other doctors to continue treatment for MS. Which I stopped taking Avonex as of last January. I know it’s Lyme and am taking it into my own hands with herbs. I have been in contact with a doctor who is not even close. I am in Ohio and am more then willing to travel within the state to find somebody to help me and believes me. I don’t want this comment posted. I’m interested in more information. I’m in N.Canton,Ohio.

You mention in the video that for Adam’s Mangosteen Juice, that a little goes a long way. What should my serving size be? Should I dilute it into water, shake, etc?

    Thanks!

Unfortunately since I am not a doctor I can’t tell you how much juice to use. My personal dosing when I have used it has ranged from a few sips up to several large gulps right from the bottle.

I was diagnosed with MS and took Rebif and Copaxone. Even when I felt the drugs were doing me harm, documented this by taking walks on and off the drugs, the neurologist(s) said to keep taking the drugs.

This kicked off my quest for a few drug. I did LDN then intravenous EAP. I was still losing strength.

that kicked off my quest for a new diagnosis and I ended up with a Lyme disease diagnosis by a LLMD.

I have mixed mangosteen juice with club soda for a delicious drink. It tastes somewhat like cocacola. I am trying to break the coke habit as it is not good for the body. Merlyn

Adams Mangosteen tasts so good, it was amazing! And it does cause significant herx reactions. I had diarrhea a few hours after drinking about 1/2 cup and that night, major left sided chest pain; like it felt like a sharp knife ripping thru my heart. NOT FUN. I think I will cut back next time. (i get left chest pain particularly when doing the rife to kill LD and babesia)

I have been using Mangosteen Plus from VEMMA. It is a great tasting juice with only 8g of carbohydrates per serving. There are no other juices to add additional sugars, but it does contain green tea (decaffinated) and aloe vera gel. Go to https://vemma.com to learn more.

Love the mangosteen, it is working so well. I’ve been treating with herbs, salt/c, mag, supplements, YL essential oils, and no sugar/no carb diet, gb4000 for 2 yrs now. Still not 100%, but went through some amazingly long herxing hauls. Bought the Faro brand mangosteen powder since I have bad candida issues still. Took 1/16th of a tsp in a veggie capsule and herxed for 2 days. Herxes are getting better, but MAN this stuff WORKS, WOOHOOO!! :D

Question: do you think the mangosteen antibiotic properties cross the blood brain barrier?

Either you have it in powder or juice, it will still contain the same nutrients and health benefits as long as both come from the same manufacturer.

Xango juice is eighty percent mangosteen puree. The other twenty percent of the juice is 100 percent juice from other fruits and do not contain any added sugars. The amount of sugars per serving are very low at 2.7 g per one ounce serving. The only reason the other juices are added are to make the mangosteen juice palatable. The rind of the fruit is very bitter and without some added flavors the juice would not be favorable therefore people would not want to drink it. Xango has done a great with formulating their product so it is palatable and complete it it’s ability to assist with chronic health conditions. Currently the Mayo Clinic is using Xango juice specifically in double blind studies in how it affects inflammation in the human body. The mangosteen fruit is an amazing gift of mother nature and can be used in many ways to help overcome health issues.
