POLL: Bartonella Treatment

One of my blind spots in previous books has been the importance of co-infections. I’m curious to hear about your experiences treating Bartonella. Has Bartonella treatment allowed your Lyme infection to be more susceptible to antibiotics, as reported by ILADS guidelines? Which Bartonella treatments did you find most effective? Have you used the commonly recommended treatments which include, Cumanda, Rifampin, Clove, HH, etc? Did your Bartonella infection become resistant to said treatments? Have electromagnetic treatments helped you? I look forwad to reading your responses below in the comments section.

I’m very interested in the responses that come in on what has been effective in treating bartonella. My eldest son was infected with Lyme, ehrlichia, babesia and bartonella. He had the bartonella rash in the area surrounding his arm pits and around the sides on his abdomen. I was shocked when I saw it, took him to the doctor and he said it was stretch marks! anyway, we did a real combination of things treating him over several years. He did the usual doxy and amoxicillin, for lyme and ehrlichia and artimisian. He did two round of mepron for babesia. Then, HH capsules for the bartonella. He had a terrible panic herx from this at one point. Then, he also did the nutraceuticals that Dr. David Jernigan uses for Lyme and bartonella. Finally, he did a regimen of  Monestary of Herbs for bartonella. He also every 6 months did an immune booster called RevitalAZ (name may have changed) that we get from a doctor in FL. He was very disciplined and stayed completely away from sugar for 2 years and ate only organic foods. All of the rash is gone and he is basically symptom free. He exercises now w/o it being painful and exhausting. If fact it gives him energy and a great outlook.

My younger son has been diagnosed with Lyme and bartonella. He has a different set of circumstances. He developed testicular cancer in 2008. He had surgery and learned 4 months later he needed chemo. We were very blessed that it was early in the disease state (so small it was never found on film) and the chemo is very effective on this cancer. However, we learned just before the chemo of his positive lyme & bartonella tests. Addressing the cancer came first, but of course the chemo was no help with that condition and in fact probably hurt it. He was given steroids during chemo which lowered his immune system even more. We are just now addressing these infections. The doctor wants to put him on Cipro and Tinidazole to start because the latter is very effective in killing the cyst as well as the spirochette. I however, am reluctant to give him antibiotics. I also just read Fluoride Awareness week on Dr. Mercola’s site. Cipro and Levaquin have fluoride in them which makes them penetrate cells. However, they are very dangerous drugs and can not only cause tendon ruptures, but cardiac problems and neuropathies. My son suffers from much pain. This was his complaint even before chemo, but it has gotten progressively worse. Doctors say he has fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, but I don’t think so. He’s only 21. The Lyme doctor, looking back on his history thinks he’s probably been sick for about 10 years. I guess he’s full of toxins and is starting cholestyramine. We’re hoping this clearing might ease his pain. My inquiry is whether anyone has successfully treated bartonella with rife or other means, in other words, without antibiotics? Thank you for any info shared! :)

Which combo of herbs from Monestary of Herbs did you use to treat Bartonella? What is the name of the products? Thanks.

I have been on pulsed antibiotics for 5 years including IV for 7 months. In the meantime I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a R mastectomy in 12/09. I had chemotherapy and radiation and finished on 7/1/10. I had Rifampin from 9/08 to 5/11 I believe. I am now on Pyrimethamine and it has made me herx so bad that I only take it on MWF with Setra and Folic Acid every 3rd cycle for 1 wk. For cycle 1 I am on Clindamycin, Augmentin and Septra for 1 wk and cycle 2 I am on the above for just MWF for 1 wk. I try to go 2 wks In between cycles. I go to one of the most famous LLMD. My Western Blot in ’06 had 9 positive bands. I have never had electromagnetic treatments. I value your opinion.

My wife had constant foot pain for many years as she was treating her Chronic Lyme. We now believe it was a Bartonell sympotm. She got the LYme in check using salt/c and CS but it wasn’t until she started using the Meissner DP100  rife machine that the pain finally went away.
For anyone interested I have a free lyme resource computer CD at my website below.

I was diagnosed with Borrelia and Bartonella using an Igenex test kit in April of this year.  I tried antibiotics for 2 weeks and couldn’t continue due to digestive issues.  Since then, I have used a bionic 880 as a treatment for both Borrelia and Bartonella since then.  I just received a negative Bartonella FISH test last week from Igenex which was a change from April.

Just started using Sida Acuta from Woodland Essence, which Buhner recommends. Feel that it’s helping.

I have used Abart by Byron White. It took 2 months but it took away my bartonella symptoms.

I am wondering if anyone has tried the following 30 day treatment. The following is a recommendation from Stephen Buhner
for persistent Bartonella Like organism symptoms

Stephen’s response:If you have bartonella, then you
will have to treat it as well as the lyme. The best easy protocol for bartonella

Sida acuta tincture (from woodlandessence.com or julie@gaianstudies.org) ¼ tsp 3x day for 30
    Hawthorn tincture, same
knotweed, (tincture, same dose as above, from woodlandessence.com or julie@gaianstudies.org, or capsules from greendragonbotanicals.com 2 capsules
    3x daily)
    ECGC 400mg +- daily
(Yu Xing Cao – 1st Chinese Herbs, powder) 1 tbl
L-arginine 5000 mg daily in divided doses (NOT WITH
    Milk thistle seed, standardized, 1200
    mg daily (Silymarin 150mg  2-3xdaily)
    All for 30 days.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have active herpes, chicken pox, or
    shingles DO NOT USE L-arginine.
In general, the most important thing is to decrease the inflammation dynamics
that are occurring in the lyme (knotweed), increase immune strength (cat’s claw,
rhodiola tincture – ¼ tsp 3x daily, eleuthero tincture, same), and work on the
    bartonella. Plus addressing specific symptoms.
