First regarding comments about Dr. John Olney, here is the Report For

These are articles by the experts and toward the end you will see Dr.
Olney’s original study which showed that aspartic acid, 40% of the
aspartame molecule, caused holes in the brains of mice. This is why
Dr. Olney tried to prevent approval.

Here is a letter to the National Federation of the Blind of Hawaii I
wrote containing many of the articles by Dr. Morgan Raiford and Dr.

Also be alerted that Ajinomoto changed the name of aspartame to
AminoSweet which is very deceiving because its the free methyl
alcohol in aspartame that sweetens the toxin.

Also, the first weekend after Labor Day is Aspartame Awareness
Weekend. I will have a flyer ready soon, but a good project for the
weekend is to email this letter to ophthalmologists, optometrists and
organizations having to do with aspartame.

I’ve notified the webmaster to take care of the issue you mentioned below.

I’m particularly happy that you wrote because it gives me the
opportunity to explain the effect of NutraSweet on vision. You’re in
a position to help a lot of people regain their sight if they are
using aspartame (Equal/Spoonful/NutraSweet/E951/Canderel, etc.).

You may remember that during prohibition thousands went blind or died
on wood alcohol. This is what is in aspartame. It’s a methyl ester
which immediately becomes methanol or wood alcohol, and then converts
to formaldehyde and formic acid in the retina of the eye and destroys
the optic nerve. The medical text, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored

chapter on the eyes and goes through the many eye problems triggered
by this deadly excitoneurotoxin from optic neuritis to macular
degeneration to blindness.

On the show you may remember I spoke about an organic market that
decided to help the effort by giving out thousands and thousands of
free 16 page booklets titled “Killer Kola”. At least 2000 people a
day shopped there and a booklet was added to each bag. Some people
came in and got handfuls of them. A couple of months later I opened
the door and a woman fell in my arms crying “I was blind and now I
can see.” I didn’t even have my address in the magazine. The owner
called that day and said, “You’re not going to believe what is going
on down here. People are coming in by the thousands, calling and
faxing, that they got off aspartame after reading the magazine and
have woken up well from medical problems they had for years. Many had
gone to physicians who couldn’t diagnose their problems.”

I went down to their establishment and the owner’s wife handed me a
stack of papers and said: “Someone came in and said to give these to
you. Dr. Morgan Raiford before he died said if anyone actually does
something to get aspartame off the market see that they receive
these.” Dr. Morgan Raiford was an ophthalmologist in Atlanta and “the
specialist in methanol toxicity”. He owned the Atlanta Eye Hospital
which is still here under a different name. He died some years ago.
In one of his papers he mentioned that if vision was in the “wet
stage” it can return if the victim is warned in time. Over the years
I’ve seen so many regain their sight because we got to them in time.
In fact, I was on a TV Talk Show in Texas with Mary Reiff, an
aspartame victim. She was using aspartame and having seizures. One
day because of the seizures she wrecked her car and ended up in the
hospital. Eventually she was declared legally blind. Off aspartame
the seizures stopped. I had her on the show about a year later and
her vision had been restored.

Joyce Wilson is another woman who went blind on aspartame, suffered
methanol toxicity, diagnosed with MS and eventually died like an
Alzheimer’s victim. It was simply too late for her. In fact, I
inherited her records. She was Aspartame Victims and Their Friends of
Georgia. This is why I have spent 17 years warning the world. It’s so
important to warn aspartame victims in time to save them.

Here are a couple of Dr. Morgan Raiford’s records:

May 20, 1987: FACTS ABOUT ASPARTAME

The above product is also manufactured as NutraSweet. This
pharmological spin-off is as highly profitable item, with a growing
market. These products are used as a sweetener, some 200 times as
sweet as regular cane sugar.

This product has some highly toxic reactions in the human visual
pathway and we are beginning to observe the tragic damage to the
OPTIC NERVE, such as blindness, partial to total OPTIC NERVE ATROPHY.
Once this destructive process has developed there is no return of
visual restoration. We are beginning to see and observe another toxic
reaction, which affects the central nervous system which is related
to PHENYLALANINE LEVELS IN THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. These
observations are more vague, however, it stimulates the damaging to
the brain and the central nervous system, having the manifestations
as PKU NEURO DAMAGE. Over 3000 cases have been reported and the FDA
to date has ignored this existence.

HUMAN VISUAL PATHWAY DAMAGE

The human visual pathway admits ninety percent of our intellectual
input to the brain and central nervous system. All of the learning
processes are centered during ones life time. The mechanism of this
tragic damage to the human visual system from this product is and has
been known for over a decade that visual loss takes place. When this
drug enters the digestive tract, largely the upper portion, this
ASPARTAME molecule spins off a by product known as METHANOL or
METHYL-ALCOHOL. This product enters the blood stream and when these
portions reach the highly metabolic region of the OPTIC NERVE AND
RETINA, PARTIAL ATROPHY CAN AND DOES TAKE PLACE. The vision can not
do without oxygen and nutrition for more than ninety seconds without
revealing some damage. Total loss of vision is present and there is
no return. In the very early stages in which is referred to as the
“wet stage”, treatment can be given and will reserve the destructive
pathology to the OPTIC NERVE and RETINA. This must be in the mind of
the physician and he must understand the chemical ongoing process.
The writer has seen many cases where the patent was allowed to go to
the degrees of blindness, as this diagnosis of OPTIC NEURITIS was
rendered, as the term IDIOPATHIC NEURITIS OF OPTIC NERVE was given,
usually steroids until systemic gross body and facial moon developed.

This therapy has demonstrated the total lack of understanding of the
basic lack of BIO-CHEMICAL PHYSIOLOGY AT THE MOLECULAR LEVEL.

The variability or onset of the OPTIC NERVE ATROPHY is of a type that
one must first think of this pathology, and it requires a certain
amount of listening to the patient. The quantity of symptoms vary
with each patient.

Over the past year the writer has observed the fact that any portion
of the central nervous system can and is affected. Since the chemical
PHENYLALANINE is mixed up with some metabolic mess, we have seen
symptoms of varying hue in the extremities, sensations of dullness of
the intellect, visual shadows, evidence of word structure reversing
and somehearing impairment is noted by the individual. This can and
will in time cause problems in learning. The medical community must
alert itself that we have a problem that has surfaced due to the
factor of the drug industry. Parents must be alerted to the side
reactions of this toxic product and its reactions.

Letter to Shannon Roth dated 10/10/86 which further explains vision
problems due to aspartame:

“Dear Shannon:

The first time that I had the opportunity to see the effects of
methyl alcohol toxicity was in the years 1952-1953 that resulted
visual damage to the optic nerves and retina in over 300 cases and
death of over 30 persons.

In the cases of the use of Aspartame the loss of vision varied, first
affection to the optic nerve fibers from loss of vision and atrophy
of the optic nerve fibers. The central fibers (225,000) of the total
(137,000,000) optic nerve fibers resulted in partial the extent of
total blindness. (see enclosed paper on the Macula physiology, a
paper that I presented in Houston, Texas, and Outline of the Macula
function.) The macula area of the retina and optic nerve fibers are
highly reactive to the toxicity of methyl alcohol because of these
fibers and nerve cells require from four to six times as much oxygen
and nutrition and the visual pathways peripheral nerves. These fibers
and nerves (Tods and Cones) can not go without oxygen for more than
90 seconds without some visual loss. Aspartame is broken down by the
upper portion of the digestive tract and methyl alcohol is then
absorbed into the blood vessels of the region which travels through
the bodies entire vascular system. This toxic effect causes extensive
damage to the highly demanding metabolic requirements of the human
visual pathway, ending with optic nerve atrophy as well as retinal
starvation and visual loss.

The intensity of these toxic effects from the methyl alcohol spin-off
causes impaired nerve damage that varies with intensity as to the
amount of methyl alcohol the individual absorbs.

Beyond the extensive visual damage that aspartame can and does
create, other organ systems are affected. Nerve damage to the arms,
legs, central nerve impairment, resulting in impaired nerve function
as well as neurosis and learning difficulties in school work as well
as behavior(metabolic short circuits of the nerve/brain/visual cells)

The pressure put upon the Federal Drug Administration are well known.
The Searle people are more interested in their greed factor of profits.

I have been told that this toxic methyl alcohol of aspartame has a
market value of over $45,000,000. The human factor is being ignored
and the moral is not presented.

This product Aspartame should be withdrawn from the market place and
not for human use until the TOXIC METHYL ALCOHOL radical has been
eliminated. Methyl alcohol has no place in a product, whole or in
part, to be allowed to be produced by any manufacturer for human usage.

WASHINGTON – Charging that aspartame – the widely used artificial
sweetener marketed as NutraSweet – causes blindness, a consumer group
yesterday petitioned the Food and Drug Administration to ban it.

The petition was another step in a long and so far fruitless campaign
by the Washington based Community Nutrition Institute against
aspartame, which also is sold in stores under the name Equal.

Three women who said their eyesight was seriously damaged or
destroyed joined in the citizens’ petition to the FDA, which they
asked “to expeditiously remove [the] product from the market without
an administrative hearing.”

At a press conference called by the institute to announce this
imminent-hazard petition, two of the women told of heavy use of
aspartame-sweetened products and said their doctors had advised them
the sugar substitute was the cause of their sight loss.

The NutraSweet Co., of Skokie, Ill., a subsidiary of Searle & Co.,
brushed off the institute’s complaint as “simply another round in
their repeated efforts to gain publicity for their thoroughly
discredited views on aspartame.”

A Washington-based group called the International Food Information
Council said through its executive director, Thomas E. Stenzel, the
allegations “that aspartame causes various side effects are not based
on any scientific data or controlled clinical studies.”

James S. Turner, a Washington lawyer representing the Community
Nutrition Institute in the petition, said the eye damage to the women
named in the complaint was “a direct, causally related event to their
consumption of NutraSweet.”

Both heavy users

Both women, Dana Cozad of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Joyce Wilson of
Stockbridge, Ga., described themselves as heavy users of the sweetener.

Wilson, a real estate agent, said she no longer can take sales
prospects to see property because her vision does not permit her to drive.

“It has cost me a lot, and I really want the public to know what a
dangerous product it is,” Wilson said.

Cozad said that vision loss struck her suddenly in the right eye
while she was driving home and that lengthy surgery and other sight-
saving efforts followed.

She said vision is gone in that eye, and – after she has spent 13
months on an aspartame-free diet – the condition of the left eye
“remains relatively stable.”

Both women said their physicians had ruled out causes other than
aspartame for their sight loss.

Methyl alcohol blamed

Dr. H. J. Roberts of West Palm Beach, Fla., said methyl alcohol is a
component of aspartame and is responsible for vision damage, which he
termed “the most serious complication” of those arising from aspartame use.

Aspartame, which is described as a “natural” product, contains two
amino acids, phenylalanine and aspartic acid, which are components of
protein. Under certain storage conditions, the sweetener breaks down
in part and methyl alcohol is a byproduct.

Roberts said the visual reaction to methyl alcohol in heavy users of
aspartame is the same as in drinkers of moonshine whiskey in
Prohibition days: “They go blind.”

Of 360 patients he has diagnosed as having aspartame-related
problems, Roberts said, about one-fourth had decreased vision or
blindness, nearly half had severe headaches and substantial numbers
had epileptic seizures, confusion or memory loss, extreme depression
and marked personality change.

At FDA headquarters in Rockville, Md., spokesman William Grigg said
the petition had been received but not yet studied.

Grigg recalled that Turner filed several interventions against
aspartame in the past, none of which received favorable FDA action.

I’m sure the National Federation of the Blind have publications and
if you could get the information far and wide a lot of people could
regain their site. Unfortunately, aspartame is pushed on diabetics so
when they lose their vision their physicians believe its due to
diabetes when, in fact, its due to NutraSweet. In fact, aspartame
actually can precipitate diabetes, simulates and aggravates diabetic
retinopathy and neuropathy, destroys the optic nerve, causes
diabetics to go into convulsions and even interacts with insulin.

The aspartame industry uses ludicrous excuses for the free methyl
alcohol like there is more methanol in oranges than in aspartame.
What they don’t say is that in nature in fruits and vegetables
methanol is always accompanied by ethanol, the antidote for methanol

Also, methanol binds to pectin in nature. Dr. Roberts has written
many letters to the FDA about the “free” and unbound methanol in
aspartame and they refuse to answer. Remember that the FDA gets over
50% of their funds from Big Pharma. The IFIC mentioned in the Chicago
article defending the manufacturer is a notorious front group.

Incidentally, it has been reported from an organization in Hawaii
that an informant from Pfizer said that Dilantin had been
reformulated and contains aspartame unlabeled. Dilantin is used for
seizures and aspartame is a seizure triggering drug. The information
we have received is that people in Hawaii are having more seizures on
the drug and aspartame symptoms such as vision problems and male
sexual dysfunction.

While the FDA is now simply Big Pharma’s Washington Branch Office, it
wasn’t always that way. The FDA themselves tried to have the original
manufacturer of Searle indicted for fraud but both US Prosecutors
hired on with the defense team and the statute of limitations
expired. Then they revoked the petition for approval. Don Rumsfeld
was CEO of Searle and said he would call in his markers and get it on
the market anyway. He did this through political chicanery and its

Over 30 years ago, FDA toxicologist Dr. Jacqueline Verrett, who also
testified to Congress that aspartame has never been proven safe,
wrote the book Eating May Be Hazardous To Your Health: The Case
Against Food Additives. Even then she summed up by saying, “What can
be done to restore to consumers their right to safe food regardless
of economic and political interests? . . . Probably the best
solution, as some members of Congress have suggested, is to abolish
the FDA and start over with a completely new agency free of some of
the political pressures. . . . When science and the public interest
win out, it is invariably only after the government has been pushed
to the wall by consumer advocates and other public pressure.”

The FDA is responsible for every case of blindness due to aspartame
because they know it blinds and refused to ban it when they were
petitioned to do so for that reason. When those responsible to solve
the problem ARE the PROBLEM, its a sad commentary. Dr. James Bowen
told the FDA over 20 years ago: “..The only responsible action would
be to immediately take aspartame off the market, fully disclose its
toxicities, offer full compensation to the injured, public and
criminally prosecute anyone who participated in the fraudulent
placement of aspartame on the marketplace.” Imagine the millions of
people worldwide who suffer blindness or vision impairments who could
see again or improve their sight if they only knew to get off aspartame!

yourwebmaster to add the text on the graphic to the image’s “alt”
attribute. For example, if one of your graphic links is a “Contact
Us” button, s/he would add that text to the image’s “alt” attribute.
This text would appear if someone moves their mouse over the graphic
button, but it would also be read by the text-to-speech screen
readers used by many blind & visually impaired people.

In the 1950’s, two opthalmology residents published a paper on the
effects of aspartate and glutamate on the retina of baby mice. It
killed nerve cells in the retina. Later Dr. John Olney repeated the
study confirming the retinal damage plus discovering lesions in the
hypothalamus and hippocampus. Swiss cheese brain.

Aspartame in All Soda?

Dear Harry,

I haven’t heard this although Dr. James Bowen once told me every once
in awhile they add it in some markets to see if people an tell. Dr.
Bowen has ALS from aspartame and like most aspartame victims is
chemically hypersensitive for life. An aspartame victim can always
tell when aspartame is in a product, labeled or not.

The problem is the manufacturers know aspartame is addictive. Like
in the case of Mars I called them and asked if aspartame were in
their products and they told me “yes, in Mars Bars”. I said, “But
its not labeled,” and they said, its under natural flavors. I tried
one and sure enough immediately got a headache.

Because of the chemical hypersensitization I tell aspartame victims
over and over never to use processed foods because this and MSG are
so often hidden.

As to soda, you have to remember that the National Soft Drink
Association (now American Beverage) wrote a 33 page protest which was
put in the congressional

never answered this letter, of course. So Coke and Pepsi knew
without a shadow of a doubt the gun was loaded, and even note gave
the law for adulteration so they knew it was illegal. The reason it
was added to the congressional record is that after absolute
knowledge of what it would do to the public and protesting, they
turned around and lobbied for NutraSweet.

I live in Atlanta, Georgia, home of Coca Cola and grew up on it. As
soon as I read this and realized they poisoned the public with full
knowledge I stopped using any soda product. Why would I give one
penny of profit to a company that was poisoning the public with full
knowledge. Even when I get on a plane and there is nothing but Coke
and Pepsi products I give out literature and drink nothing but
water. We also have Mission Possible Aviation because so many pilots
have had seizures, cardiac problems, etc. and we’ve lost 6 on
American. One died in flight of sudden cardiac death while drinking
a Diet

They landed the plane to remove the body and get another
pilot. Mission Possible Aviation was started when Cliff Evans
crashed his plane on aspartame and lived to tell about it. He came
to Atlanta and asked me to alert the pilots. I’ve also been told of
other crashes including one jet in California due to aspartame. The
FAA says they can’t do anything about it because the FDA approved
it. However, a lot of FAA people warn pilots on the side. There
have been many studies including those by the military and one was
done in South Dakota of recent years. So they are fully aware of how
dangerous it is. In fact, we have one lady who is an international
flight attendant who flies our packets around the world to Air
Traffic Control to keep the planes in the skies. Dr. Roberts told
me the story of talking to someone in Air Traffic Control drinking a
Diet Coke and he couldn’t remember who he was or where he was.

Do you remember when they tried to put New Coke on the market. A
physician here in Atlanta said that was “aspartame
Coke”. Fortunately back then they didn’t get away with it because
the public wouldn’t accept it. They knew it was addictive and a cash
cow. The free methyl alcohol is classified as a narcotic. It causes
chronic methanol poisoning. This affects the dopamine system of the
brain and causes the addiction.

Over the years I have spoken to many, many informants. In fact, I
once said if I had time and wanted to write a book it would be called
“Hearsay, I hear what you’re saying”. One informant said a Pepsi
employee told him that the National Soft Drink Association had done a
10 year study showing Alzheimers, birth defects and blindness. He
said he was demoted because he told about it but that all people
should be warned. Do I believe its true? Absolutely. I ran into
somebody from NSDA when I was giving out flyers in Tuesday Morning
some years ago. She kept saying aspartame was safe and when I
mentioned the study she got all excited and said, “No way, you could
have that study!” That’s all she had to say. Coke and Pepsi have
been doing studies for years. I even spoke to a man who use to work
for Coke. He said all he did was translate studies from around the
world. They were all bad. They only publish studies controlled or
financed by the manufacturers. As one toxicologist said, “Didn’t you
know that studies are down in foreign countries so the pharmaceutical
industry will know how much they have to pay off congress for
dangerous drugs. For instance, the studies on laurel sulphate were
done in Spain.” Well, I did know many are. I have an affidavit from
Norma Vera, a translator who translated Searle’s studies done in 6
countries that showed aspartame destroys the brain, triggers brain
tumors and seizures. hardens the synovial fluids and more. The
pregnant woman lost her baby, hemorrhaged and disappeared. Some of
the people in the died. We almost had those studies and we will get them yet.

It was only yesterday that I learned an interesting point. My
husband and I were having breakfast at Christopher’s and we were in a
hurry to get to a meeting. I said, “Honey, we’re going to have to
wait 30 minutes, why not eat at the counter”. This nice man got up
to make room and had people move down one so we would have two chairs
together. It was really bugging me he was drinking a Diet Coke and
the waitress kept filing it up every time it got down to half a
glass. So I said to him, “You helped me, now let me help you”. We
had a long conversation and Don gave him some material. He admitted
that he was highly, highly addicted and couldn’t get off of it. He
also told me about a friend like him who was addicted and trying to
get off of it after reading an article. He was getting married and I
explained to them about the birth defects, male sexual dysfunction
and how his marriage could be destroyed if he didn’t get off of it,
and Don invited them to dinner.

After they left I gave the waitress filing up the Diet Coke a little
lecture and some material. She said, “Thank you very much. Actually
I know how bad it is. A physician came in one day and was talking
about it. He did autopsies and said they always knew a user, and may
have been what killed the person. He said when they cracked the head
you could always smell it.” He was talking obviously about the
formaldehyde. I’ve spoken to physicians too who called about
autopsied. One at Emory called one day to say, as an example, they
found un metabolized aspartame on the brain stem. I’ve had people
tell me aspartame was found in brain tumors, and also neurosurgeons
have mentioned a green ring and a white ring that identified an
aspartame user. I’ve written to Christophers at least three times
to remove aspartame and Splenda, and told them they could use packets
of Just Like Sugar, a safe sweetener that is all food, no additives,
analyzed and proven to be safe. They didn’t even reply.

Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D. in Excitotoxins: The Taste That
Kills explained that for every molecule of aspartame metabolized, a
molecule of methanol was released into the blood stream.

Monsanto, Ajinomoto, Searle, Merisant – all the aspartame
manufacturers lie and say the free methyl alcohol does not get into

of (U-14CPhe) aspartame following its oral administration was very
similar to that of (U-14C) phenylalanine after 0.5, 2.6 and 24 hr and
7 days. Thirty minutes after administration of these compounds, very
high levels of radioactivity were observed in the lumen of the
stomach and upper small bowel. Significant uptake of radioactivity
was observed in the pancreas, gastrointestinal mucosa, hair
follicles, salivary gland and liver. Radioactivity was observed in
the kidney, adrenal gland, bone marrow, spleen and eye. Some
radiolabel was localized to the BRAIN, SPINAL CORD, (emphasis added)
heart, thymus, lung and testes.

So aspartame is a drug and not an additive, its an addictive,
excitoneurotoxic, carcinogenic, genetically engineered drug and
adjuvant that damages the mitochondria or powerhouse of the cell and
interacts with drugs and vaccines.

Everything is a matter of public record and aspartame remains on the
market illegally and killing people all over the world. In fact, I
flew to Barcelona and spoke with Dr. Maria Alemany who did the Trocho
Study which proved the formaldehyde converted from the free methyl
alcohol embalms living tissue and damages DNA by which humanity can
be destroyed. He even went to officials in Spain and the police. He
told me aspartame would kill 200 million people and I told him I
believed it already had. What a hero. So what did industry do –
simply had one of their flacks try to rebut it who in the end
admitted he used the wrong test. Yet government agencies still have
the flacks information on their web site as if it was true.

What’s so bad is that while everything is a matter of public record
and aspartame is clearly against the law, the power and influence of
the aspartame industry keeps government agencies from removing

Do you know the EPA even has a department that has to do with
aspartame. One of the informants worked for EPA in the early 90’s as
a pathologist, must have been doing the autopsies on aspartame
victims. His name is Reginall Bundrage. My husband and I met him
one night and I kept giving him information on aspartame. There are
a lot of horrors most people don’t know but it turned that Reginall
knew everything!! He said, “I know more than you do, I worked with
EPA as a pathologist on the aspartame issue. I told them ‘how can
this allowed, it’s constantly killing people?!!!!!’ ” He said EPA
told them the FDA would have to take it off the market pretty soon
because of the amount of deaths. Then Reginall said, “That was in
the early 90’s and look at the date now. They know its a killer and
do nothing.”

Now Ajinomoto wants to get another aspartame product approved that
has already been proven to interact, Advantame, and because we’ve
gotten the information around the world, has changed the name of
aspartame to
AminoSweet.

Since the FDA is only loyal to industry and not the people I’m
worried they will approve it. I’ve asked people to send this open

All I can say, is “would you trust the pop companies”? If not, do

Now I’ll go back to the beginning.

Aspartame was not approved by science but thru the political
chicanery of Don Rumsfeld. D.C. Attorney James Turner, explains how
Rumsfeld did it in the documentary Sweet Misery, a Poisoned World.

Searle’s problem was they couldn’t get studies to show safety. For
example, in the Bressler
Report:

you read where they would excise brain tumors from the rats, put them
back in the study and after they died resurrected them back on paper.
They even filtered out neoplasms to hide them from the
FDA. Repeatedly Searle was caught in this criminal activity.

On January 10, 1977 in a 33 page letter, FDA Chief Counsel Richard
Merrill recommended to the Justice Department Attorney Sam Skinner
that a grand jury investigate Searle for “apparent violations of the
Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, 21 USC 331 (e), and the False
Reports to the Government Act, 18 U.S.C. 1001, for “their willful and
knowing failure to make reports to the Food and Drug Administration
required by the Act, 21 U.S.C 355 (i) and making false statements in
reports of animal studies conducted to establish the safety of
aspartame.” The FDA called special attention to studies investigating
the effect of NutraSweet on monkeys and hamsters.

Searle was caught dead to rights, so they hired Skinner, made him a
deal he couldn’t refuse. So the former Justice Department prosecutor
became a defender. Next at bat as U. S. Prosecutor
was William Conlon, who promptly switched sides too. By then the
statute of limitations had expired. Searle knew they couldn’t win the
case so they simply hired the prosecutors. The Godfather hired the
District Attorneys!

Nevertheless the FDA had no intention of approving aspartame. The
fraud was so great that Dr. John Olney (who with James Turner fought
against approval of aspartame ) told Searle to do studies in his lab
so he could see that they were done honestly, with supervision. Dr.
Olney believed the FDA wouldn’t approve aspartame because the studies
showed it produced brain damaged. What he didn’t anticipate is that
Searle didn’t submit these findings to the FDA.

January 30, 1980 the Public Board of Inquiry revoked Searle’s
petition for approval declaring that they had “not been presented
with proof of reasonable certainty that aspartame is safe for use as
a food additive.” Searle had spent $17 million on an aspartame
factory and had no intention of giving up, poison or no. At this
point they hired Donald Rumsfeld who said he would call in his
markers and get it approved anyway.
What were those markers? President Reagan had told Rumsfeld he would
be nominated for vice president, but instead selected Bush number 1.

The day after Reagan took office he appointed Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes
as the new FDA Commissioner, to over-rule the Board of
Inquiry. Reagan knew it would take 30 days to get Hayes to the FDA ,
so he wrote an Executive Order making the FDA powerless to do
anything about aspartame. At 3 AM that night a member of Reagan’s
staff called the FDA Commissioner Jere Goyan and fired him. Here is

Once aspartame was on the market there was outrage as consumers were
diagnosed with seizures, multiple sclerosis and blindness from the
free methyl alcohol releases. Senator Orrin Hatch, on Monsanto’s
payroll, obstructed hearings on aspartame for years, but there were 3
Congressional hearings from 1985 to l987. Hatch was on Monsanto’s
payroll, and kept the bill in committee that would put a moratorium
on aspartame until NIH completed independent studies on the flood of
aspartame problems they were seeing: seizures, blindness, headaches,
sexual dysfunction, behavioral problems, especially in children, drug
interactions and birth defects.

About that time Dr. James Bowen wrote FDA that “aspartame is mass
poisoning of the American public and 70 countries” – today over
100.

The good doctor wrote: “For this reason, I am opposed to labeling
aspartame content of food and drinks. To do so would imply that the
government is taking some sort of responsible action….when the only
responsible action would be to immediately take aspartame off the
market, fully disclose its toxicities, offer full compensation to the
injured, public and criminally prosecute anyone who participated in
the fraudulent placement of aspartame on the marketplace.”

How was the new FDA Commissioner, Arthur Hayes, get rewarded for
over-ruling the Board of Inquiry? He was hired as a consultant to
NutraSweet’s PR Agency on a 10-year contract at $1,000.00 a day, and
nobody’s heard a peep from him since, he got lockjaw. Who ever heard
of a PR guy who won’t talk?

Now they began funding professional organizations
ladies-of-the-evening like the American Diabetes Assn, American
Dietetic Assn and numerous others to propagandize the public with
touting asparshame. Of course they also threatened scientists whose
studies identified the toxicity of this poison. In the UPI
Investigation Dr. Wurtman was threatened if he did studies on
aspartame and seizures he would lose his funding. He capitulated.

Dr. Wurtman, too, got a terrible case of aspartame lockjaw, but MIT
still gets the money.

ILSI, the International Life Sciences Institute, was born in 1978 as
a “research” front for our favorite poisoners. It’s board members
are from Coke, Pepsi, Searle, Monsanto and the rest of the usual
suspects. If a university won’t play their way the get no pay, that
is to say, funding for fake “research”.

Over the years many independent studies have been done. The
manufacturers say 200 studies that aspartame is safe as rain. Some
of those were the ones FDA found fraudulent and sought prosecution
for, and others were simply bought and paid for quack studies from
rubber duck labs.

Seizures are listed 5 times on the FDA report of 92 symptoms that
range from male sexual dysfunction to

People are having so many seizures and going blind on aspartame that
the Community Nutrition Institute filed a petition to ban aspartame

They were so worried someone would have a seizure they actually gave
people anti-seizure medication in the Rowan study. ‘

Another impeccable “study” involved one-day consumption of, believe
it or not: a single capsule of aspartame. Tantamount to smelling the
bottle. The got it peer reviewed with their power. So when
consumers complain of seizures they say “we did studies and aspartame
doesn’t cause seizures”.

I smoked a Lucky once and I’m fine, so nicotine
doesn’t cause cancer!

They have all bases covered. Today front groups like Calorie Control
Council, with full knowledge that aspartame causes birth defects and
mental retardation actually push the

When 60 Minutes did a story about aspartame and brain tumors the
manufactures claimed to have all these studies showing safety. Dr.
Ralph Walton who was on the show decided to research who funded the

Note that 92% of independent peer-reviewed studies show problems
aspartame causes, while those funded or controlled by industry all
say it’s safe. If you eliminate 6 studies the FDA, aspartame’s branch
office in Washington, messed with, and one pro-aspartame sponsored
summary, 100% of independent scientific peer reviewed studies show
aspartame problems.

As Dr. Bowen said: this is mass poisoning of the world. Aspartame
destroys the brain, the optic nerve, the immune system and central
nervous system. It devastates every organ of the body. Epidemic
obesity, diabetes, sexual dysfunction, retinopathy and neuropathy,
optic nerve destruction, convulsions and insulin reactions, MS,
Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, IQ depreciation and dozens of other
afflictions have been inflicted upon us by this deadly neurotoxic
carcinogenic “sweetener”.

pentagon in an inventory of prospective biochemical warfare weapons

Here are summaries of the two aspartame studies, Ramazzini, that
showed aspartame to be a multipotential carcinogen, passed down
through the mother:

DR. MORANDO SOFFRITTI, lead researcher on two groundbreaking
long-term aspartame studies. He was recently honored at New York’s Mt
Sinai School of Medicine with the Irving J Selikoff Award For his
outstanding contributions to the identification of environmental and
industrial carcinogens and his promotion of independent scientific
research. Reviewing his two impeccable aspartame studies. Dr.
Soffritti explains:

The first ERF study (2005) was conducted on 1800 Sprague-Dawley rats
(100-150/per sex/per group) In order to simulate daily human intake,
aspartame was added to the standard rat diet in quantities of 5000,
2500, 100, 500, 20, 4, and 0 mg/Kg of body weight. Treatment of the
animals began at 8 weeks of age and continued until spontaneous
death. The results show that APM causes a statistically significant,
dose-related increase of lymphomas/leukemias and malignant tumors of
the renal pelvis in females and malignant tumors of peripheral nerves
in males. These results demonstrate for the first time that APM is a
carcinogenic agent, capable of inducing malignancies at various dose
levels, including those lower than the current acceptable daily
intake (ADI) for humans (50 mg/kg of body weight in the US, 40 mg/kg
of body weight in the EU).

The second ERF study (2007) was conducted on 400 Sprague-Dawley rats
(70-95/per sex/per group). In order to simulate daily human intake,
aspartame was added to the standard rat diet in quantities of 100,
20, and 0 mg/Kg of body weight. Treatment of the animals began on the
12th day of fetal life until natural death. The results of the second
study show an increased incidence of lymphomas/leukemias in female
rats with respect to the first study. Moreover, the study shows that
when lifespan exposure to APM begins during fetal life, the age at
which lymphomas/leukemias develop in females is anticipated. For the
first time, a statistically significant increase in mammary cancers
in females was also observed in the second study. The results of this
transplacental carcinogenicity bioassay not only confirm, but also
reinforce the first experimental demonstration of APMs multipotential
carcinogenicity.

Over six years ago I petitioned the FDA to ban aspartame. The FDA
has 180 days to answer it. They refuse, obviously because I’m using
their own words, and they don’t know how to get around the fact that
everything is a matter of record. If it wasn’t so criminal one
would have to laugh at their propaganda – the idea that someone might
even consider believing them. For instance, they will tell you there
is just a small amount of methanol, and there is more in
oranges. What they don’t say is that in oranges that it is
accompanied by ethanol which is the classic antidote for methanol
toxicity and takes it out of your body safely. Here is a peer

Methanol also binds to pectin. In aspartame there is no

There are efforts now in states and countries to rid the planet of
aspartame. It is genetically engineered. The manufacturers are get
people in high places addicted. When I testified to the Senate in
New Mexico, half the senators were sipping Diet Coke. Presidents
Clinton and Bush were addicted. Methanol is classified as a
narcotic, it causes chronic methanol poisoning. This effects the
dopamine system of the brain producing addiction.

I’ve lectured in other countries and I can tell you people are sick
and dying the world over on this poison. It would be great to see it
banned from California. First of all its illegally on the market
because it violates the Delaney Amendment. Here are comments from an
FDA toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, to Congress on 8/1/85:

Dr. Gross testified that at least one of Searle’s studies “has
established beyond ANY REASONABLE DOUBT that aspartame is capable of
inducing brain tumors in experimental animals and that this
predisposition of it is of extremely high significance. … In view
of these indications that the cancer causing potential of aspartame
is a matter that had been established WAY BEYOND ANY REASONABLE
DOUBT, one can ask: What is the reason for the apparent refusal by
the FDA to invoke for this food additive the so-called Delaney
Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act?”

The Delaney Amendment makes it illegal to allow any residues of
cancer causing chemicals in foods. In his concluding testimony Gross
asked, “Given the cancer causing potential of aspartame how would the
FDA justify its position that it views a certain amount of aspartame
as constituting an allowable daily intake or ‘safe’ level of it? Is
that position in effect not equivalent to setting a ‘tolerance’ for
this food additive and thus a violation of that law? And if the FDA
itself elects to violate the law, who is left to protect the health
of the public?” Congressional Record SID835:131 (August 1, l985)

The adulteration means it violates interstate commerce laws.

Consumer power is winning the war against this toxin. Holland
Sweetener, the largest European aspartame producer closed in 2006.
Another European maker also quit. In Japan Tosh stopped making it as
well. Merisant, in the USA went bankrupt for $230,000,000 in
January, 2009. 47 members of Parliament signed for a ban in the
UK. There is continuing effort to get banned in the
Philippines. Romania banned it in the early 90’s because it’s
carcinogenic. And now the European Food Safety Authority is doing a review.

Today no drug is safe if the consumer is using aspartame because of
the interaction due to damage to the mitochondria. It’s used in
hospitals because of the dietitians making patients even sicker.

The Nutratanic hit the iceberg and Coke & Pepsi are in the lifeboats
with new sweeteners in the works. Japan’s Ajinomoto and the USA
NutraSweet Co are still slapping around in the frigid waters of
consumer
condemnation.

If I can provide further data I’ll gladly do so. There is no way to
show safety on aspartame with honest, unbiased studies. Eliminate
industry studies to defend its product and you’ll see how deadly is
this toxin. Dr. Bill Deagle said its more deadly than depleted
uranium because its ubiquitous in our food.
