Folic Acid intake

Higher Folic Acid intake in premenopausal woman is associated with 40% lower incidence of breast cancer.

“The results were higher intake of folate was related to reduced risk of breast cancer and this only applied to premenopausal women.”

Folate Associated with Reduced Risk of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a cancer that forms in tissues of the breast, usually the ducts (tubes that carry milk to the nipple) and lobules (glands that make milk). It occurs in both men and women, although male breast cancer is rare. Risk factors for breast cancer include gender, age, family history, defective genes, early onset of menstruation, late menopause and late childbearing. Breast cancer is about ninety percent due to genetic abnormalities that happen as a result of the aging process and the “wear and tear” of life in general.

Sublingual B12 – with comments from Dr. Gordon

Sublingual B12 dramatically changes lives! Beyond B12 from Longevity Plus also contains three forms of folic acid so that the negative reports about cheap folic acid do not apply. Only when you are using the methylated forms of folic acid, as well as B12, can we overcome some of the methylation associated problems rampant in patients today.

This is due to epigenetic changes; thanks to the Bisphenol A found in everyone today many of us have impaired methylation pathways. I did a webinar that addressed some of these issues, as methylation is deeply involved in detoxification and memory loss as well. The webinar can be found on www.gordonresearch.com (Methylation Support, Toxins, and Memory Loss (1/25).

This article will help you appreciate the epidemic of borderline B12 deficiencies we see when we test with methylmalonic acid not serum B12, which is a waste of time and money.

Please read this and help your patients to a fuller happier and healthier life. Help meet their B12 needs! B12 has cured asthma in children and treated bursitis and it was heavily studied in mainstream literature just 50 years ago before all the drug companies came up with a drug for anything that seems wrong with every patient while carefully ignoring the causes of impaired health.

Tired? Depressed? Forgetting things? Who isn’t these days?

Those are also symptoms of a deficiency of B12, a key nutrient needed to make red blood cells and DNA and keep the nervous system working right.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is officially considered rare, affecting about 1 in 1,000 Americans, according to a 2005 study. But the incidence rises with age, to about 15% of elderly people. The rate is also much higher among people who don’t eat meat or dairy products, people with absorption problems, people taking acid-blocking medications and those with Type 2 diabetes who take the drug Metformin.

“B12 deficiency is much more common than the textbooks and journal articles say it is,” says Alan Pocinki, an internist in Washington D.C., who routinely tests his patients who fall into those categories. He also notes that since the Metformin connection was discovered only recently, some physicians aren’t aware of it. “They assume that if patients complain of numbness and tingling in the feet, it’s a diabetes issue and not a B12 issue.”

Other symptoms of low B12 include anemia, depression, dementia, confusion, loss of appetite and balance problems. Long-term deficiency can bring severe anemia, nerve damage and neurological changes that may be irreversible.

Sometimes the symptoms are subtle. Internist Linda Assatourians, one of Dr. Pocinki’s partners, says that a surprising number of her young female patients also have low levels of B12. Typically they are healthy and active, but they don’t eat much meat and they have minor mood, memory or balance problems. “When I supplement their B12, they feel better,” Dr. Assatourians says. “It’s not a controlled study, but I see a lot of them.”
“I was sort of tired, but I thought, ‘It’s winter and I’m doing too much,’ ” says Jessica Riester, 27, editor of publications for a German-American think tank. Her B12 level was slightly over 200 picograms per milliliter (the normal range is considered 200 to 800 pg per ml). After several weeks of B12 injections, then 1,000 milligrams daily in pill form, her B12 is now over 600 pg per ml and she says she feels better. “My color is better and the shadows under my eyes are gone,” she says.

B vitamins and Dementia

This is proof that we slow the brain shrinkage rate by 30% using B- vitamins. I assure you the difference will be even more significant when you include sublingual administration of Methylcobalamin with all 3 forms of Folic acid.  By the way I have never failed to see real improvement in mental functioning when I enhance blood flow, which Beyond Chelation-Improved always does, as it really lowers blood viscosity significantly.

The synergistic effects from the over 78 active ingredients in BC-I with the Omega 3/primrose and the heparin-like effects from the EDTA/MUCOPOLYSACCARIDE and the PHOSPHATIDYL SERINE with Gingko that has always been a key part of oral chelation effect BC-I delivers without fail. Note we continue to have no reported fatal heart attacks or strokes while I cancel stents and bypass on everyone, as those are really not needed when you do my FIGHT for your health program.

Last week the exciting results of a new study were widely reported in the UK press, “Vitamin B tablets could slow and even halt the devastating march of Alzheimer’s disease,” The Daily Telegraph reported. The newspaper went on to say, “large daily doses of vitamin B can halve the rate of brain shrinkage, a process that can precede Alzheimer’s disease and dementia”.

This story is based on a well-conducted two-year double blind trial, carried out by researchers from the University of Oxford, the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Oslo in Norway, which compared the use of high dose vitamin B supplements with an inactive placebo in 271 people over 70 with slight memory problems. The study discovered that those given vitamin B suffered brain shrinkage or atrophy 30% slower than those given placebo.

This early research was published in PLoS One, the peer-reviewed journal of the Public Library of Science. Read the research here: Homocysteine-Lowering by fatal heart attacks or strokes while I cancel stents and bypass : A Randomized Controlled Trial

Brain atrophy describes the loss of neurones and their connections and is a process that is accelerated in people with mild cognitive impairment and even faster in those who develop Alzheimer’s.

Bisphenol A – Comments from Dr. Gordon and Research Paper

Toxins work in many ways. We can now better understand the causes behind our epidemic of obesity and diabetes and impaired suboptimal health, as a nation. The attached research will show that BPA (BISPHENOL A) is worse than any of us realized yet the lie goes on and, until recently, FDA still insisted it and many other toxins are perfectly safe.

Read this from Harvard and NIH and I hope that this knowledge will start you on the road to lifelong detoxification. We are all living longer, but not better, unless you start to detox daily for life. This is just one of the many toxins that are preventing you and your patients from enjoying optimal health. It is behind the EPIGENETIC changes that impair methylation, as documented by Randy Jirtle at Duke that shows the obesity and diabetes that starts when Agouti mice are exposed to BPA and continues forever in their offspring unless you aggressively provide methylation support.

So you need all the CH3 ( Methyl) support  you can get and  I have built into Beyond B12  three forms of Folic acid along with methyl cobalamin.  Also the world’s most advanced Vitamin C delivery system BioEn’R-G’y C provides additional methylation support with its MSM and TMG (Trimethylglycine).

These are  just some of the reasons my FIGHT program so far helps most patients even when other nutrient based programs had failed. The devil is in the details and this research paper should make you wake up to the fact that you have this and phthalates in heavy amounts in you and your patients and your children born and yet to be born. It is too late to escape so plan to start Zeolite, high dose C and D and Fiber with MACA and Organic Greens based treatment that really works.  Why not try my “Power Drink” approach using those ingredients and add one ZeoGold premeasured dose in water for a month then decide if it is worth it to you to feel and function that much better!  Nothing works optimally until we neutralize the toxins including mercury and lead and all of the organic toxins starting with BISPHENOL A.

Attached is entire paper on In vitro molecular mechanisms of bisphenol A action.

Bisphenol A (BPA, 2,2-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl) propane; CAS# 80-05-7) is a chemical used primarily in the manufacture of polycarbonate plastic, epoxy resins and as a non-polymer additive to other plastics. Recent evidence has demonstrated that human and wildlife populations are exposed to levels of BPA which cause adverse reproductive and developmental effects in a number of different wildlife species and laboratory animal models. However, there are major uncertainties surrounding the spectrum of BPA’s mechanisms of action, the tissue-specific impacts of exposures, and the critical windows of susceptibility during which target tissues are sensitive to BPA exposures. As a foundation to address some of those uncertainties, this review was prepared by the “In vitro” expert sub-panel assembled during the “Bisphenol A: An Examination of the Relevance of Ecological, In vitro and Laboratory Animal Studies for Assessing Risks to Human Health” workshop held in Chapel Hill, NC, Nov 28-29, 2006.

The specific charge of this expert panel was to review and assess the strength of the published literature pertaining to the mechanisms of BPA action.

However, the primary endocrine disrupting activities of BPA extend beyond its ability to mimic, enhance or inhibit the activity of endogenous estrogens and/or disrupt estrogen nuclear hormone receptor action, and include the following: effects upon the androgen systems [22–29]; disruption of thyroid hormone function [30–40]; diverse influences on development, differentiation and function of the central nervous system [40–46]; and influences on the immune system [21,47–65]. There is additional clear evidence for BPA to directly impact intracellular signal transduction pathways through mechanisms independent of the transactivational activity of nuclear hormone receptors [43,46,66–79]. Secondary metabolic and pharmacokinetic actions of BPA that impact its bioavailability and bioavailability of endogenous steroid hormones have also been described.

Hypothyrodism and endothelial dysfunction – a message from Dr. Gordon

This mainstream report found that one year of Levothyroxine treatment does not fully restore endothelial function. This is important for two reasons:
1. Mainstream is beginning to acknowledge that low thyroid functioning contributes to heart disease.
2. Also I suggest that Heart Disease is multifactorial and, therefore, MONOTHERAPY will often fail.

Many would feel that the type of thyroid replacement is a partial explanation but I feel that we would need to look at Iodine to have provided a better outcome. But all the elements of my FIGHT program are relevant for those seeking OPTIMAL improvement in cardiac or endothelial function. There is always low levels of some nutrients (F), take your pick from Vit D to Magnesium. There will always be the high probability of CMV infection (I). And, probably some Genetic issues with some epigenetic changes increasing the need for methylation support including the active forms of Folic Acid (G). Then there will always be some element of heavy metals (H: Lead, etc.) and there will be Toxins in everyone that include endocrine disruptors and neurotoxins (T)!

Thus this report should help prove the need for broadly based approaches in dealing with chronic illness such as endothelial dysfunction leading to atherosclerosis.

Abstract:
 Summary Objective
Hypothyroidism is associated with elevated cardiovascular risk, not fully explained by classical risk factors. Instead, endothelial dysfunction may link hypothyroidism to atherosclerosis. The effect of levothyroxine substitution on endothelial function has been sparsely studied and the results are unclear. This study tested endothelial function as estimated by concomitant measurements of endothelial dependent vascular dilatory capacity and plasma concentration of von Willebrand factor antigen in patients with hypothyroidism and further examined  the impact of subsequent levothyroxine substitution.

Vitamin B6 and Methionine Lower Risk of Lung Cancer

Linda’s comment:  Well folks I have been here and done this with the lung Cancer not once but twice.  I learned….The FIGHT protocol is what I follow.  It is unfortunate, but today we have to protect ourselves from the toxic environment, which is becoming more toxic by the day.  I also take 20,000 mg ofBio En’R-Gy C, daily.

Watch the  FIGHT webinar’s on this blog to get a better understanding of the importance of committing to the FIGHT protocol.
Dr. Gordon’s Comments:
Lung cancer on the rise along with our increasing pollution B-6 and Methionine and Folic Acid supplementation decrease incidence by 66% according to June 2010 JAMA.

“above average blood levels of vitamin B6 and Methionine, assessed on average 5 years prior to disease onset, are associated with at least a 50 percent reduction in the risk of developing lung cancer. The researchers also noted that when higher levels of vitamin B6 and Methionine are combined with an increased level of folate the reduction in lung cancer is 66 percent.”

Both of these nutrients are found in Beyond Vitamins-Improved and Beyond Chelation-Improved but the METHIONINE is in the Essential Daily Defense, as DL Methionine, which also helps detoxify mercury so you get even greater benefit.

Remember lung cancer in women is up 600% and over 50% have never smoked so pollution is the issue and daily detoxification is now essential for life.

BC-I conveniently also prevents fatal heart attacks and strokes due to decreasing clotting tendencies with its heparin-like action while also lowering lead levels with its multiple chelators including garlic, EDTA, DL Methionine etc.

Lung cancer is a disease that forms in tissues in one or both lungs and usually in the cells lining the air passages. The majority of lung cancers are malignancies that arise from epithelial cells. Lung cancers most commonly metastasis to the adrenal glands, liver, brain and bone. There are two types of lung cancer; one being small cell lung cancer and the other one being non-small cell lung cancer. Cigarette smoking causes most lung cancers but high levels of pollution, radiation and asbestos exposure may also increase the risk. Statistical estimates in the US for 2008 including both types of lung cancer would be 215,020 new cases and 161,840 deaths.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is a water soluble vitamin that is instrumental in more than 100 enzyme reactions in the body. These activities are mostly related to the metabolism of amino acids and proteins. Vitamin B6 deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies. Much of this is due to the fact that a lot of vitamin B6 is lost during cooking and food processing. A U.S. Department of Agriculture study reported that 80 percent of Americans consume less than the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin B6.
Methionine is important to a variety of biochemical pathways; most cells can use homocysteine as a substitute for methionine. However, there are methionine-dependent cells that cannot use homocysteine in place of methionine. Methionine levels affect the amount of sulfur-containing compounds, such as glutathione, which defend against toxic compounds, in the liver. When higher levels of toxic compounds are present, more methionine is needed.

Current research has found that higher blood levels if vitamin B6 and methionine reduce the risk of lung cancer.

H.R.T. from Longevity Plus

Linda’s comment:  I began taking the H.R.T. from www.longevityplus.com  and happy that I did.  This is an awesome product….This H.R.T. isan herbal remedy  from Thailand.  Please read about it at the above web site.

Dr. Gordon’s Comments: What you must know about HRT, both kinds, the dangerous pharmaceutical version and the documented safe alternative herbal form, PUERARIA MIRIFICA. You can have happy menopausal patients without doubling their breast cancer recurrence rate. Just read this carefully and, if interested, ask Longevity Plus customer support to email you a packet of scientific information.

Anyone realizing that hormone therapy doubles recurrence of breast cancer should take the time to learn about the alternative to standard HRT that is Longevity Plus’s H.R.T. (Herbal Remedy from Thailand). Here we have epidemiological evidence that those consuming Pueraria Mirifica in their diet regularly have the lowest incidence of Breast Cancer according to the World Health Organization statistics.

Now your patients can have the improved quality of life that the ESTRIOL-like MIROESTROL component to H.R.T. provides without the increased risk of breast cancer associated with the pharmacological based HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) so widely used today in the US in spite of its known risks of heart disease and cancer.

Try H.R.T. on your next patient who has memory loss, insomnia, hot flashes, vaginal dryness and the other constellation of symptoms associated with menopause and see for yourself. Remember, the added ingredients in H.R.T. include the VITAL METHYLATION FACTORS like all 3 forms of Folic Acid and Methylcobalamin.  The published data about the more natural form of folic acid  5’MTHF shows it helps depression, even when antidepressants have not helped, and helps peripheral neuropathy, and improves memory, and helps to deal with endothelial vascular dysfunction ( vascular disease).

HRT Doubles Recurrence Risk in Breast Cancer Survivors
LONDON, March 25 — Breast cancer survivors treated with hormone replacement therapy had a more than two-fold increased risk of recurrence or a contralateral malignancy, according to long-term follow-up data from a randomized clinical trial.

•Note that this is one of the few randomized, controlled studies that have examined the risk of breast cancer recurrence associated with HRT.
Those randomized to HRT had five-year breast cancer rates of 22.2% compared with 8% in women who received best patient care for menopausal symptoms without hormone therapy, Lars Holmberg, M.D., Ph.D., of King’s College London, and colleagues, reported in the April 2 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

“The results of the HABITS [Hormonal Replacement after Breast Cancer — Is It Safe?] trial indicate a substantial risk a new breast cancer event among breast cancer survivors using hormone therapy,” the authors concluded.

“Our results further suggest that hormone therapy not only induces and promotes breast cancer but may also stimulate the growth of tumor microdeposits in breast cancer survivors,” they added.

Despite the statistically significant impact of hormone therapy on breast cancer risk, the authors said more data from randomized studies are needed to define the risk and to clear up inconsistencies in prior studies.

However, Kathleen Pritchard, M.D., a breast cancer specialist at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Center in Toronto, said in an accompanying editorial that the study “suggests quite definitively that there is a statistically significantly increased risk of recurrence in women given HRT following diagnosis of breast cancer.”

Persistent questions about the potential risks and benefits of HRT in breast cancer survivors provided impetus for several observational studies and analyses of case series. More recently, data from the Women’s Health Initiative and the Million Women Study provided additional compelling evidence of an increased risk of breast cancer among HRT users, the King’s College authors said.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is EPIDEMIC

Linda’s comment:  I have had to take B12 shots for years UNTIL I began on the FIGHT protocol.  I was taking sublingual B12 in am and pm, plus shot, but when I began taking the  B12 on the FIGHT protocol,  I no longer have to do the shots.  I can’t encourage you enough to have those B12 levels checked.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is EPIDEMIC and we suffer from this lack of B12 with many health problems including fatigue and early memory loss. This report found that 50% of TYPE 2 Diabetics have B-12 deficiency, which contributes to the more rapid development of diabetic complications including dementia and neuropathy.

It is so easy to correct this condition using Longevity Plus’s sublingual Beyond B12, which includes the ideal form of B12 Methylcobalamin to support methylation, as well as ACTIVE forms of Folic Acid. Folic acid is also so vital for health and again when properly tested, 5’MTHF is almost routinely deficient in our aging population.
