New Lab Test

Brand-new test now available for the actual Borrelia activity in the blood:

Borrelia-Elispot-LTT = Lymphocyte Transformation Test

Test-principle: Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) by standardized T-SPOT technique

Elispot-LTT now approved by the CDC and FDA for Tuberculosis bacterium!

Same test-principle available for 3 different Borrelia burgdorferi antigens now (Fully antigen, peptide mix and LFA1), LFA1 especially in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia

Measurement of Borrelia-Elispot-LTT: Number of IFN-gamma producing cells (spots)

Elispot measures a person’s actual immune reaction against Borrelia burgdorferi

Possible results: positive, negative and borderline

Elispot-LTT for Borrelia test-sensitivity: around 76%

Elispot-LTT cannot exclude a Lyme infection, but is very helpful in diagnosing, if the result is positive!

Elispot-LTT technique is also available for Ehrlichia/Anaplasma and especially Chlamydia pneumoniae and Chlamydia trachomatis!

Most patients with Lyme disease suffer from Chlamydia pneumonia at the same point of time (multiple infections)

Chlamydia pneumoniae is found exactly in the same diseases than Borrelia (“overlapping symptoms”):

Chronic Fatique Syndrom (CFS), Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsonism, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Arthrosis, Carpal-Tunnel-Syndrome, Arthritis, Alzheimers, Dementia, Persistent Cough (atypical pneumoniae), Autism…..

Therefore you have to test each Lyme patient for Chlamydia pneumoniae with Elispot-LTT!

Why? Because therapists can only do the right antibiotic or other treatment choice, if they know about the bacterial enemies exactly!

Elispot-LTT for Borrelia and Chlamydia is very helpful in controlling, if a therapy was successful, then activity results should be normal after a successful treatment!

Be careful: Use the right tubes for taking blood to stabilize the cells for Elispot-LTT: CPT or CPDA-tubes, all other results from other tubes like Heparin can be false-negative in other laboratories!

What about chronic Lyme activity tests?

CD57-count is very helpful in monitoring chronic Lyme activity, around 70% sensitivity, according Burrascano’s ILADS guidelines.

So you should do Elispot-LTT for Borrelia, Chlamydia and the CD57-count to reach a sensitivity of around 90% in chronic infected patients!
