Chapter 2:
Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD

Lyme Disease Treatment Protocol

Doctor's Biography: Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, is the founder and medical director of Sophia Health Institute in Woodinville, Washington, as well as the founder of the Klinghardt Academy (USA), Klinghardt Institute (UK) and the American Academy of Neural Therapy. He is the medical director of the Institute of Neurobiology and Founder and Chairman of the Institute for Neurobiology in Germany and Switzerland. The Klinghardt Academy teaches about biological treatments and Autonomic Response Testing (ART) assessment techniques.

Dr. Klinghardt has been treating a wide variety of chronic and degenerative health conditions for more than 40 years and is internationally known for his successful treatment of chronic pain and illness. He combines non-surgical orthopedic medicine with immunology, endocrinology, toxicology, neural therapy, hypnotherapy and energy psychology, and has a unique approach to diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders on both the physical and mental-emotional levels.

Dr. Klinghardt studied medicine (1969–1975) and psychology (1975–1979) in Freiburg, Germany, and completed his doctorate on the involvement of the autonomic nervous system in autoimmune disorders. His research and work have been documented in several publications. Early in his career, he became interested in the sequelae, or involvement of toxins (especially lead, mercury, environmental pollutants and electromagnetic fields), in illness.

While working in India as a junior physician, Dr. Klinghardt learned about Eastern concepts of disease etiology and combined these with his Western training to better help his patients. This laid the foundation for his five-level system of integrative medicine, for which he is well known.

After immigrating to the United States, Dr. Klinghardt spent three years working as a full-time emergency physician before becoming the medical director of the Santa Fe Pain Centre. Increasingly aware of the limitations of conventional medicine for chronic conditions, he also trained in Ericksonian hypnotherapy and began to incorporate body-oriented psychotherapeutic and counseling approaches into his work, along with neural therapy, mesotherapy injection techniques and applied psycho-neurobiology (psycho-kinesiology and mental field therapy).

Since the 1970s, Dr. Klinghardt has contributed significantly to the work of understanding heavy metal toxicity and its connection to chronic infections, illness and pain. He is considered an authority on this subject and has been instrumental in advancing various fields within biological medicine, including non-invasive pain management, injection techniques for pain and orthopedic dysfunction, anti-aging medicine, toxicology, pediatrics (particularly neurodevelopmental disorders), energy psychology and biological dentistry. He has also developed Autonomic Response Testing (ART), a comprehensive diagnostic system that has helped many practitioners to become accomplished holistic physicians.

Dr. Klinghardt has lectured at the universities of Illinois, Utah, Freiburg and Adelaide, as well as at Capital University in Washington, D.C., among others, and at Swiss medical schools in Geneva and Zurich. From 1996–2005, he was an associate professor in the Department of Applied Neurobiology at Capital University.

Dr. Klinghardt is regularly invited to teach workshops at the prestigious Medicine Week in Baden-Baden, Germany. Among his books is the groundbreaking Psychokinesiology: A New Approach in Psychosomatic Medicine, which is a comprehensive book about muscle feedback-guided psychotherapy.

How I Became Interested in Lyme Disease

My interest in Lyme disease was born out of my own suffering and struggles with poor health, which began at age 12. These struggles led me to become interested in medicine and psychology, although I did not find the answers to my healing in medical school, through psychology, or even by going to India to meditate for several years. But my experiences eventually lead me to discover that I had Lyme disease and, subsequently, to help others with Lyme.

In 1991, many years after becoming a doctor, I got a Borrelia culture test through a friend, Nobel Prize nominee Lida H. Mattman, PhD. This was long before there was any reliable commercial test available for Lyme disease, and the results came out positive. I then tested all of my chronic pain patients and discovered that about 80 percent of them also had Lyme disease. So I began treating people for Lyme in 1991 and was amazed at how often the antimicrobial therapy cleared up their intractable pain and many other symptoms. I have since treated many chronic Lyme disease patients.

Lyme Disease: Not Just Microbial Infections, but a Disorder of the Immune System

On a molecular level, most of the symptoms that we call Lyme disease are really due to the immune system’s reaction to microbes and toxins, rather than the microbes and toxins themselves. The immune system’s reaction to Lyme disease is far more destructive to the body than Lyme microbes or antigens. On average, it is estimated that more than 93 percent of all Lyme symptoms are caused specifically by the immune system attacking the tissues in places where the microbes hide out. For this reason, the practitioners at the Sophia Health Institute and I use a technique to modulate the immune system as an important part of our treatment approach (more on this later).

Environmental Toxins Set the Stage for Disease

There are an estimated 82,000 man-made toxic compounds in our environment. If appropriate detection methods are used, all of these compounds can be found in our bodies. We all are contaminated with huge amounts of toxins, and it’s the unhealthy "terrain" of our bodies that sets the stage for us to become sick from pathogenic microbes and other factors. This is because these toxins act as a favorable growth medium for the wide variety of microbes that we are all infected with and which we in the medical community lump together under the term "Lyme disease." The toxins that I have found to be key in contaminating the body and weakening the immune system are: mercury, lead, aluminum and glyphosate. Glyphosate is a chemical that is sprayed on food and which is ubiquitous in the environment; it’s also the key ingredient of Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide.

What’s more, the damaging effect of these toxins is far greater when the toxins are combined. For instance, there is a synergistic effect between aluminum and mercury, and aluminum and glyphosate. When these are all present in the body, they really damage it.

This, in turn, causes the microbes to become aggressive and pathogenic and ultimately cause chronic illness as the body’s terrain becomes increasingly contaminated. Glyphosate plays a key role in this process. It is found everywhere in the environment and is very damaging to the microbiome (or the community of beneficial microbes that live in the body). It is, among other things, a chelator, which means that it removes precious trace minerals from the body so that the body can’t absorb them. However, glyphosate acts as a "door opener" for aluminum, rather than a chelator, and so facilitates the absorption of toxic aluminum from the gut into the body, which then causes the body to become aluminum-toxic.

So in addition to glyphosate, we all are exposed to high amounts of aluminum, which is found in our food, water and air supply, in addition to our personal care and household products. Consequently, it is found in high amounts in our bodies. If we had no glyphosate in our bodies, our guts would act as a pretty effective barrier against aluminum and prevent its absorption into all of our cells. But because we are all contaminated with glyphosate (even organic food in the United States contains 80 percent as much glyphosate as what is found in commercially-grown food), it enters our gut through our food and binds to the aluminum there. Both it and the aluminum are then carried into our brain and pineal gland, where they damage these organs, along with the rest of the nervous system.

This, along with the damage that these toxins cause to our healthy gut bacteria, seems to be the basic mechanism through which chemical toxins damage the body and weaken the immune system so that Lyme pathogens can flourish. This is further evidenced by the fact that there is a correlation between the increased use of glyphosate in the environment and an increased rate of Lyme among the general population. Aluminum as a growth and virulence factor for Borrelia has been supported in published studies on lab animals.

The air is one important means through which we are exposed to these environmental toxins, especially toxic heavy metals. Rainwater contains astronomical levels of aluminum, titanium, barium and strontium. Additionally, through my and others’ research, we have discovered glyphosate in rainwater samples. Inhaling these toxins is particularly dangerous because our bodies have no effective biological barrier to protect us against them when we breathe them in. The lungs, which take in the toxins, are the most damaged organs in most people, and lung cancer has now become the most prevalent cancer in women (and this has been after we have all realized the dangers of smoking and stopped doing it!).

In one experiment, my colleagues and I measured the heavy metal content of 120 of our patients’ blood using a procedure called "double membrane filtration apheresis," which is a new blood-washing procedure that is done in Japan and Germany, and which consists of separating the blood components and/or toxins out of the blood. The results of this test showed that on average, our patients had 94 times more aluminum in their blood than any other toxin, including lead, cadmium, mercury or any other heavy metal or chemical.

We also discovered that nanonized aluminum was the most abundant form of aluminum in the patients’ bodies. This form of aluminum is known to cause generalized inflammation, as well as endothelial (blood and lymphatic vessel lining) and mitochondrial dysfunction. It also creates an environment in which Lyme pathogens can flourish.

Fortunately, there are tools that we can use to help cleanse our bodies of these toxins so that they become a less hospitable environment for infections and disease. These will be described later in this chapter.

Aluminum Protects Microbes in the Blood Vessels

Several published studies on inflammation of the inner lining of the blood vessels, such as "The infectious etiology of vasculitis" which was published in Autoimmunity in 2009, have shown that Lyme-related organisms such as Rickettsia (especially Ehrlichia and Anaplasma), Borrelia, and Mycoplasma—as well as just about every other microbe common to symptomatic patients—are found in abundance throughout the blood vessel lining. The results of these tests read like the "Who’s Who" of microbes and are proof that just about any microbe can be found in the inner lining of the blood vessels, and that perhaps this is their preferred domicile in our bodies. Here, they are well protected by a solid layer of fibrin and biofilm. Fibrin is a fibrous protein involved in blood clotting, while biofilm is a "slime" of sorts comprising extracellular DNA and proteins which the microbes use to cloak themselves and hide from the immune system.

At the same time, researchers have discovered that toxic aluminum settles largely in the endothelium, or the inner lining of the blood vessels. The approximate length of the blood vessels, if they were to be strung together, would measure about 200,000 kilometers, or 124,300 miles. If you were to open them up and measure their surface area, it would equate to about two square miles. Now, imagine that all of your blood vessels are covered with that much nanonized aluminum!

From this, we’ve learned that microbes, which primarily grow in the blood vessels, are protected from the immune system by aluminum and other heavy metals. This means that when you remove the aluminum from the blood vessels and detoxify the body of aluminum, you will remove one of the microbes’ protective mechanisms and greatly increase the number of Lyme-related pathogens that can no longer have a "foothold" in the body and remain protected by the endothelium.

This fact is relatively unknown by the medical community. Borrelia spirochetes also exist in the body’s connective tissue and inside the neurons of the nervous system (intra-neuronally) as well as inter-neuronally (or between the neurons). But where the Lyme pathogens primarily affect and upregulate the immune system and create havoc is inside the blood vessel lining.

Further, I’ve discovered that there’s a direct correlation between the severity of our patients’ Lyme disease symptoms and the amount of aluminum that they have in their blood and which we can detect via apheresis. So the first thing that I do with all of my Lyme disease patients is clean up their inner terrain and get as much of the aluminum out of their bodies as possible, while also decreasing their bodies’ burden of glyphosate and other chemicals. This is a new treatment approach that we have followed for a few years now and found to be necessary and successful, especially for the most persistent forms of Lyme organisms.

Organic and inorganic mercury are similarly damaging to the body, but the results of a relatively successful treatment that was used to treat syphilis until 1945 (syphilis is a Borrelia-related illness) showed that mercury is actually a medicine for spirochete illnesses because it actually keeps the microbes from replicating. Mercury has also been used until recently as an effective anti-inflammatory remedy, and it is used in medications such as Mercurochrome and Preparation H. So interestingly, the more mercury that there is in the body, the less inflammation there is and the less active the microbes will be. Mercury destroys the brain and neurological system, but not through the process of inflammation, so people who have high levels of heavy metal toxicity can slowly die without a lot of pain or symptoms. But I’ve found that once we remove the mercury from the body, the Lyme spirochetes actually become more active—and paradoxically—easier to treat. There are some interesting things that we’ve learned, and this is one of them.

Cilantro and Ionic Footbaths: More Effective than EDTA for Heavy Metal Removal

The detoxification agents and toxin binders that have typically been used within the medical community to remove aluminum and other heavy metals from the body have proved to be disappointing and somewhat ineffective. In the past, I would find that our patients would get some improvement as a result of taking them, but that it wasn’t enough.

The good news is that I have recently developed a method for removing aluminum and other heavy metals, which has proven to be very effective for our patients over the past couple of years. The seeds for this method were birthed out of what I learned from one of my teachers, Yoshiaki Omura, MD, one of the few living geniuses of our time. Dr. Omura did wonderful studies on animals and proved through these studies that he could decrease the amount of aluminum and lead in the animals’ brains and long bones by half in 39 days, just by giving them regular doses of a cilantro extract.

In a similar research model, intravenous sodium EDTA, which doctors have conventionally used for heavy metal chelation (or detoxification), was given to lab animals in the same dosages that are currently recommended for heavy metal chelation, once per week for three hours. In this experiment, it took seven years to get the same amount of lead out of the animals’ brains and long bones as what cilantro accomplished in only 39 days. So I paid attention to these studies and tried to find ways to replicate Dr. Omura’s results. I found that I was able to get positive results in my patients by giving them cilantro, but initially, it wasn’t enough.

Then, I learned something important from a German neurologist named Dr. Margareta Griesz-Brisson, a Harvard graduate who lives in Germany and England. Dr. Griesz-Brisson conducted an experiment on 20 patients to determine which detoxification agents would be most effective for removing heavy metals from the body. She discovered that when the patients regularly took cilantro tincture and combined that with an ionic footbath, that this dramatically increased the amount of mercury, lead, cadmium, nickel and especially aluminum (basically everything toxic) that the patients excreted in their urine and hair.

The ionic footbath has been greatly misunderstood and misrepresented because of false advertising and confusion about what the color of the water means and what it’s supposed to look like. According to some ionic footbath advertisers, the dark color of the water that some footbaths produce is supposed to represent the toxins that come out of the body and, thereby, prove the effectiveness of the footbath. However, I have found that the color of the water is irrelevant and inadequate for determining whether the footbath works.

What researchers have overlooked is actually measuring the toxins that get excreted in the urine after the footbath, but Dr. Griesz-Brisson did this and discovered that the footbath caused her patients to excrete significantly higher amounts of toxic metals, which she confirmed by measuring their urine and doing a hair analysis test on them after the footbath. Yet, she found that the footbath caused only a slight increase in their bodies’ excretion of essential minerals.

From this research, we can conclude that cilantro-ionic footbath therapy preferentially eliminates toxic chemicals from the body, and we have found that the kidneys secrete the greatest amount of toxins on the third day following a 30-minute footbath. Therefore, it may be best to do this treatment only twice weekly in order to prevent overwhelming the kidneys with toxins.

It’s also noteworthy to mention that in Dr. Griesz-Brisson’s study, the amount of aluminum in her subjects’ urine was so "off the charts" that she had to change the scale for measuring aluminum excretion so that it would fit on the same chart as the other toxic metals! I’ve since adopted her method for heavy metal removal over the past couple of years, so we’ve been giving our patients cilantro tincture and then having them do ionic footbaths afterward. The results have been very dramatic and positive. What’s more, it’s an inexpensive and simple treatment that’s affordable for most.

How to Do Cilantro and Ionic Footbath (CIF) Therapy

To do the cilantro-footbath treatment, start by taking two droppers of cilantro tincture in a little bit of water before each meal. I recommend using a pure product such as BioPure’s Cilantro, which is cultivated and grown in such a way as to provide excellent detoxification benefits to the body. Then, after dinner, do a 30-minute footbath. Your body will excrete the majority of the mercury and other toxic metals on the third day following the footbath.

We do not know whether the type of footbath that you use for this procedure really matters. Depending on our patients’ needs, we offer them two differently priced footbaths at our clinic (both available from SophiaNutrition.com). They range in price from $1,300–$2,300 US dollars.

The cilantro-ionic footbath (CIF) treatment has been to-date the most successful detoxification therapy that we’ve ever done; far more effective than DMSA, EDTA, DMPS or any other heavy metal chelation therapy, although most of these modalities can be combined.

Yet CIF beats all of these heavy metal treatments at a fraction of the cost and causes few side effects.

Detoxifying Glyphosate with Humic and Fulvic Acids, Berries and Other Substances

As I mentioned, glyphosate is another important toxin that enables Lyme disease microbes to flourish in the body. Unfortunately, the medical community still doesn’t know with certainty how to effectively remove glyphosate from the body, but at our clinic, we have developed a protocol that we have found to be helpful for reducing our patients’ body burden of this toxin. This protocol is partly based on published research, which shows that certain compounds, such as humic and fulvic acid minerals, bind with glyphosate in the gut and help to carry it out of the body. We give our patients BioPure’s Matrix Minerals product, which contains these minerals, for this purpose. For more information on Matrix Minerals, see: BioPureUS.com.

Secondly, studies have shown that three types of berries are able to turn on the body’s natural detoxification mechanisms and better enable it to remove glyphosate. They are pomegranate, the North American plum and acai. BioPure’s Deep Purple product contains all three of these berries in freeze-dried form, so we recommend this product to all of our chronically ill patients. We also use Deep Purple to heal the inner lining of the blood vessels and have seen fantastic results from it. For more information on Deep Purple, see: BioPureUS.com.

As a third glyphosate detox treatment, we recommend sauna therapy because many of the organophosphates and fat-soluble chemicals that are stored in the body are heat volatile and will evaporate out of it through the sweat.

Other published studies have shown selenium, vitamin C and vitamin E to be helpful for detoxifying glyphosate. To mobilize toxic chemicals in the gut, we also recommend that our patients take a special form of zeolite. Not all zeolites are created equal, so it’s essential to use the right form. By definition, zeolite is aluminum silicate. Most zeolites on the market contain a 1:1 ratio of silica to aluminum; meaning, they comprise 50 percent silica and 50 percent aluminum. It is dangerous to take these zeolite products because the stomach acid liberates some of the aluminum in them and allows it to be absorbed into the body, making the body more toxic. Liquid zeolite is even worse because the aluminum in it is very bioavailable and easily absorbed into the body.

Instead, I recommend a product called ZeoBind™, which has a 6.5:1 ratio of silica to aluminum. It is very safe because silica has a high affinity for aluminum, which means that it bonds strongly to it. Therefore, the aluminum from the zeolite does not get released into the gut or absorbed into the body. Rather, the silica absorbs a lot of the aluminum out of the bloodstream and removes it from the body. Famous zeolite researcher and former university professor Dr. Karl Hecht studied over 200 zeolites from around the world before he discovered this one, which he found to be the most effective. For more information on BioPure’s ZeoBind, see: BioPureUs.com.

Electromagnetic Pollution and Its Role in Lyme Disease

Another major factor that influences recovery from Lyme disease is electro-smog (or electromagnetic pollution) and exposure to manmade electromagnetic fields (EMFs). The negative effects that EMFs have upon the body are cumulative and twofold. First, EMFs—particularly the microwave radiation from cell phones and cell phone towers—are highly immunosuppressive. Secondly, electromagnetic pollution drives the growth of microbes within the body, so that, as if anticipating their own death, these microbes replicate much faster and produce more virulent toxins.

A Swiss mold researcher once conducted some simple experiments to measure the virulence and prevalence of mold and mold toxins (myco-toxins) in high EMF environments. He exposed molds to a Wi-Fi router and found that the production of mycotoxins was dramatically increased by the energetic frequencies. The virulence of the toxins also increased 600-fold. That means that not only did the mold and mycotoxins multiply more rapidly, but they also became much more potent in the presence of EMFs. There’s an increasing body of research that links many chronic illnesses to microwave and radio wave exposure.

Of course, there are different types of mold and mycotoxins, and the virulence and pathogenicity of mold varies, in part, according to the environment in which it is found. For example, the Swiss researcher found that aflatoxins can exist in the body in an in-between state, in which they are neither very pathogenic nor benign, or they can become absolutely cancer-causing and devastating to the body, especially when exposed to EMFs.

How to Reduce Electromagnetic Pollution in the Home

Because EMFs affect the behavior of microbes and ultimately influence recovery from Lyme disease, we educate all of our patients on their dangers and provide them with recommendations for reducing EMFs in their home and work environment. The short list of recommendations includes:

Removing all Wi-Fi routers and cordless phones from the house

Using a hardwired Internet connection

Turning off all circuit breakers in the home at night

Plugging Graham-Stetzer filters into all of the home and workplace outlets during the daytime. These filters are a very inexpensive way to make the home and workplace biologically healthy. (For more information, see: Stetzerizer-us.com.)

Using cell phones intelligently. I recommend doing lots of texting and making very few calls. If possible, use the speakerphone option and/or a blue tube radiation-free headset. For more information on blue tube technology, see: EMFnews.org/store.

Removing Smart Meters: A Dangerous Source of Electro-smog

Smart meters, which are now being installed on most homes across the United States as well as in other countries, are one important source of electro-smog. They are actually digital surveillance devices that are falsely marketed as devices that calculate energy consumption and which are purported to lower monthly energy bills. However, the energy companies’ promise to save consumers money has so far proven to be false.

I recommend watching the documentary Take Back Your Power to learn more about the problems with smart meters and how the frequencies that come from these meters damage the body. I also encourage you to mobilize others within your local community and get them to fight the electric company for the removal of all smart meters from the homes within your community. This is the long-term solution to the problem of smart meters. The old analog meters worked well without problems, so there is no reason why these should not be reinstated.

The short-term fix for reducing the harmful effects of smart meter frequencies upon the body is to take four layers of sturdy aluminum foil and place it between the smart meter device and the outside wall of your home. This will block the harmful effects of the smart meter frequencies that come through the wall wiring. It’s possible to prevent the smart meters from creating radiation inside of your home by simply using this strategy alone.

I also recommend creating a sleep sanctuary by draping a mosquito net-like silver-coated cloth from Swiss Shield® over your bed at night. The cloth creates a Faraday cage which blocks the electromagnetic fields that radiate from microwave towers, your neighbors’ Wi-Fi and other sources of high frequency radiation.

Graham-Stetzer filters also are beneficial. They don’t decrease the amount of radiation in the home, but instead modulate the harmful frequencies that come into it from the wall wiring and other sources so that they become less destructive to the body biologically. They can make a huge difference in your health. For more information on Swiss Shield technology, see: LittleTreeGroup.com.

Other Detoxification Therapies at Sophia Health Institute

Colon/Lymph Drainage/Massage Therapies

In addition to the things that I’ve already mentioned, during the initial phase of our patients’ treatment, we recommend that they do colonic and lymph drainage treatments, along with massage and sauna therapy. These therapies are most often highly beneficial as part of any Lyme treatment protocol and can greatly facilitate the healing process.

Apheresis

To detoxify our patients of chemical toxins, heavy metals and inflammatory cytokines, we also do a modified version of the Japanese/ German apheresis treatments. This treatment, which I briefly mentioned earlier, is a blood-washing technique that involves removing the blood from the body, filtering the toxins out and continually recycling the blood back into the system over a three-hour period. ELUAT, the filtrate used for this procedure, is ideal for identifying and quantifying the toxins that are found in the blood.

Summary of Detox Treatments

In summary, the pre-conditions for the effective treatment of Lyme disease include practicing radical electro-smog hygiene and removing mercury, glyphosate, aluminum and other chemicals/ toxins from the body and home. All of these steps are a must. Only after my patients commit to doing these things will I even consider treating their persistent Lyme disease infections.

Lyme Disease Treatment Approach

My Lyme disease treatment approach hasn’t really changed over the past 20 years. The only aspect that has changed dramatically over the past few years has been recognizing that it’s not the presence of the bugs that makes us sick, but rather, the reactions of our immune system, which are driven not only by microbes, but also by electrosmog, glyphosate, aluminum and all the other toxins that we are exposed to which make our bodies completely dysfunctional. The toxins cause the immune system to attack every tissue in the body that looks like a Borrelia spirochete.

Other than this, my antimicrobial strategy has always been to treat the creatures in the patient’s body from the largest to the smallest; so that means parasites first, and viruses and nanobacteria, last. This is because parasites are themselves invaded by, and incubate, spirochetes, viruses, bacteria and other microbes. So it makes no sense to treat the Lyme infections and viruses first because the bigger organisms also harbor them, and you won’t be able to fully eliminate them until you eliminate the bigger microbes. Otherwise, you will only be killing the infections and viruses that are outside of these organisms because Lyme-specific treatments do not penetrate into the parasites.

Therefore, because smaller organisms survive inside of larger ones, my treatment sequence involves going after the larger creatures first. These are multicellular creatures that largely comprise parasites, roundworms, tapeworms and hookworms, as well as the larval forms of these organisms.

Then, the treatment sequence is as follows:

  • Yeasts
  • Molds
  • Protozoans

Bacteria:

  • Mycoplasma (which are cell wall deficient bacteria)

  • Nanobacteria and viruses

The Power of Ozonated Rizol Oils and Phospholipids in Antimicrobial Therapy

I have used ozonated rizol oils as my primary antimicrobial tool for many years with great success. I am not against antibiotic therapy, but I generally don’t use prescription medications unless absolutely necessary. For all of the Lyme-related infections, we use BioPure O3 Oils™, which consist of a combination of ozonated olive, castor and essential oils. We use many different combinations of essential oils and are testing others out. I have found the ozonated oils to be a fantastic tool for removing microbes. For example, just olive oil by itself is very effective for treating microbes – particularly Mycoplasma. It has recently gained notoriety in medicine, and by ozonating it, we obtain even greater results in our patients with it. The same is true of the other antimicrobial oils.

A typical dosage of these oils is 10 drops, taken two or three times daily. The oils are lipophilic, so they can penetrate into fatty tissue areas of the body such as the brain. The oils cross the brain-blood barrier, where they greatly inhibit the growth of microbes.

Oils are also taken up directly by the lymphatic system once they hit the esophagus or stomach lining, so they’re best taken separately as other herbal remedies can interfere with this process. From the lymphatic system, the ozonated oil finds its way across the bloodbrain barrier, where it attacks microbes in the brain and nervous system. By nature, antimicrobial herbs in these remedies are fatsoluble, which enables them to enter fatty tissue like the brain, unlike regular herbal remedies. They are therefore extremely effective for treating Lyme microbes.

Liposomal remedies have other benefits. They can trick microbes into opening up their biofilms, which makes them more susceptible to the immune system. Stephen E. Fry, MD, MS, and Founder of Fry Labs, has found that the most persistent pathogenic microbes live in biofilm, which protects them from the immune system. These biofilms line not only the gut and other mucous membranes of the body, but also the blood vessels and fascia, the thin sheath of fibrous tissue that encases muscle and organs. This means that we all have many square miles of bugs and biofilm in our body’s vasculature, or blood vessel system. Most of this biofilm is located on the venous side of the vasculature, where the blood flows slowly.

The bugs that are encased within these biofilms depend on fatty acids for their nutrition and energy. So, when something that looks like a fat or fatty acid fl by in the bloodstream, the microbes will open up their biofilm and readily suck it in. This means that they easily uptake oils and liposomal remedies, which look like fatty nutrition to them. So in essence, the liposomally-prepared herbal antimicrobials function like a Trojan horse by tricking the bugs inside of the biofilm to uptake and "chew up" the fat, at the same time that the killing compound inside the fat is released. It’s a wonderful system that has been overlooked within the Lyme disease community, but the principle has been described extensively in the medical literature. Nonetheless, few practitioners have caught on to this valuable method for treating Lyme microbes.

The principal ozonated oil that we use for many Lyme-related infections, especially the larger creatures, is a product called Gamma O3 (formerly rizol gamma), which we might prescribe at a dosage of 10 drops, 3 times daily. It is the most common remedy that we use, and it covers most of the infections. For Babesia, we recommend liposomal Artemisia annua tincture at a dosage of two to three squirts (or 10–15 drops) 4 times daily. These two remedies alone are often usually sufficient to significantly reduce the majority of microbes in the body.

We use a product called LipoSorb, which is the smallest particle-sized phospholipid available to make the liposomal remedies. For more information on the rizol oils and LipoSorb, see: BioPureUs.com.

Dr. Klinghardt’s Lyme Protocol

Following is my main protocol for treating Lyme-related microbes, especially the smaller creatures such as Borrelia and Bartonella, and viruses. Most of the products mentioned here can be purchased at: BioPureUS.com (USA), or at KiScience.com (for clients in the United Kingdom and Australia).

Step 1: The Foundation

Cistus Herbal Tea.
This tea can be used to prevent tick bites, as well as to dissolve biofilm. It also has anti-Borrelia properties. Start by drinking two cups daily, and gradually increase the dosage to eight cups daily. As soon as your symptoms improve, stay at that dosage. If you experience a detoxification reaction or your symptoms worsen, go back to the last dosage of the tea that you were able to tolerate.

Toxin Binders. Toxin binders capture biotoxins in the intestinal tract so that they don’t get re-absorbed into the body. They also help to eliminate ammonia, a neurotoxin caused by Borrelia. Choose one of the following binders for this purpose:

ZeoBind. Dosage: ½ teaspoon, 3–4 times daily, between meals and/or at bedtime

Chlorella. Dosage: 8–16 tablets (250 mg each) 3 times per day, 30 minutes before meals, or at bedtime

Hyaluronic Acid. This substance teases microbes out of their protected hiding places and is a nutrient for the joints and connective tissue. I recommend BioPure’s hyaluronic acid for this purpose. When taken sublingually, it is completely uptaken and absorbed into the body. Dosage: 3–4 droppers, twice daily. If joint pain is your main symptom, consider taking a third dose.

Step 2: Liposomal Antimicrobial Cocktail

To prepare this cocktail, you’ll need a 100 ml dropper bottle; otherwise, you’ll want to re-calculate the following dosages according to whatever size bottle you are using.

Fill 1/4th of the 100 ml bottle with LipoSorb™ (from BioPure)

Fill the remainder of the bottle with equal parts of all of the following five ingredients:

Artemis (which regulates iron transport, increases superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the body, and has anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-protozoal properties).

Quintessence (which has antibacterial and antiviral properties)

Cilantro (which removes aluminum and mercury from the body and has anti-viral properties)

Propolis (which protects the body against microwave radiation, has anti-Bartonella and antiviral properties, and increases BH4)

Whole leaf stevia (which has antimicrobial effects against Borrelia)

Then, fill an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner with water and place the closed bottle containing all of the ingredients into it and vibrate it for 15 minutes.

The sicker you are, the lower the dosage of the antimicrobial cocktail that you should take. A typical dosage is 5–15 drops, 4–6 times per day. Keep the solution under your tongue for two minutes before swallowing. I recommend consulting your doctor for guidance and to determine what dosage would be best for you.

Observe your reactions. If you have a strong Herxheimer response, reduce the dosage to the last tolerated amount. If you have no positive or negative reaction, then increase the dosage. It’s best to "tiptoe" your way up to the most effective and well-tolerated dosage. Herxheimer reactions are always a sign of overdosing, or that the remedy is ineffective and unnecessary.

Step 3: Additional Biological Healing Tools

As with all of the tools mentioned throughout this chapter, you’ll want to consult with your healthcare practitioner and get tested to determine which of these tools would be appropriate for you.

MicroSilver™. This product by BioPure is a unique, low-potency homeopathic preparation of nanonized silver that has a multitude of documented broad-spectrum, antimicrobial properties. It does not cause the body to store silver or cause problems such as skin discoloration, as many colloidal silver products are known to do, if they are taken for long periods of time.

Silver has been shown to work effectively all by itself, but it also potentiates the effects of other antimicrobial remedies. Like other homeopathics, it is taken straight and undiluted, away from all other remedies, food, water and drinks. Dosage: two tablespoons, 2–3 times daily.

Most patients benefit from decreasing their body’s burden of aluminum, which is also found in the lungs and brain, in addition to the blood vessels. As I mentioned, aluminum has been shown to enhance the destructiveness of Lyme disease microbes. AL Detox is an additional product that we recommend for aluminum detoxification. To use it, add it to the antimicrobial cocktail and titrate up to an optimal dosage
in the same manner as you would the other remedies. You can also take AL Detox by itself, regardless of whether you are also treating Lyme or other related infections. To purchase AL Detox, see: SophiaNutrition.com.

Many Lyme disease patients have undiagnosed kidney problems because the inner lining of the kidneys, ureter, bladder, and urethra are favorite hiding and feasting places of Borrelia and co-infections. To support the kidneys, I recommend Sophia Nutrition’s Kidney Tincture. The tincture should be taken separately from the antimicrobial cocktail in a glass of water, and titrated up to an effective dosage. A typical dosage is 3 droppers, 3 times daily in a full glass of clean water. It can also be squirted on food (salad dressing, cooked veggies, etc.).

Mold treatment. Many Lyme patients also suff from mold illness. Your home and body must be mold-free if you want to recover. To treat mold, I recommend taking the ozonated plant oil Gamma O3. This ozonated oil blend also has multiple anti-parasitic and anti-bacterial properties and works synergistically with the Lyme cocktail. Gamma O3 is taken independently of the cocktail at a separate time of day. A typical dosage is 10 drops, 3 times daily.

For more information on this and other protocols/solutions for Lyme disease, see my February 2016 Lyme Solutions seminar which can be purchased at: KlinghardtInstitute.com.

The specific ingredients in the herbal remedies can be found in the attachments to my presentation. Other product brands can be substituted for those that are recommended in the protocol, as long as the products are carefully sourced. Herbs may have the same name but not all have the same level of biological activity in the body.

As a final note, during the initial active treatment phase of Lyme disease, I have observed antioxidant vitamins to be an obstacle to my patients’ recovery, rather than beneficial. Most chronic Lyme patients start feeling better after about 3–4 months on this protocol and reach a profound level of recovery after 18 months. If you have been severely ill for many years and have taken antibiotics for more than three months, you may require maintenance dosages of some of these liposomal herbs for the rest of your life.

LDA and LDI: A Revolution in Lyme Treatment

Of late, there has been a major shift in the way that some healthcare practitioners are treating Lyme disease, with an increased focus on immune modulation and less focus on killing microbes. These practitioners believe that many of the symptoms that patients with Lyme disease experience are due to an overstimulation of their immune system. They are finding that when they desensitize their patients’ immune system to the microbes, rather than just killing the microbes, their exaggerated immune reactions are diminished.

As a result, patients experience much faster symptom relief and a more complete resolution of their symptoms than with the old way of treating Lyme, which involved simply killing bugs. Just 10 years ago, the strategy within the Lyme-literate medical community was to kill all of the microbes in the body. Now, only 10 percent of our treatment approach is about killing microbes, and 90 percent of it is about immune modulation.

In my seminars, I’ve been teaching other practitioners that to effectively treat chronic Lyme disease, they must do all of the following:

  • Reduce their patients’ toxin levels to make their entire system more functional
  • Teach their patients protective measures against electro-smog
  • Modulate their immune system
  • Balance their basic chemistry and correct nutritional and hormonal deficiencies
  • Reduce their bodies’ burden of microbes, including the most persistent forms of the organisms.

We use a combination of two strategies at our clinic to modulate the immune system. One is low-dose allergen (LDA) treatment, and the other is low-dose immunotherapy (LDI). Ty Vincent, MD, is the master teacher of LDI, which has recently become popular among some Lyme-literate doctors.

These two treatments involve injecting or sublingually administering sterile homeopathic dilutions of microbes into the body. A micropore filter is used for the process so that no actual microbes end up in the final product, only their "inverted" energetic frequencies.

The principle of homeopathic toxicology is simple: when you repeatedly dilute a toxin or microbe in water or another solution multiple times, and then succuss it (which involves forcefully shaking the container that the diluted toxin is in), at some point during the dilution process, the toxin will become its own perfect anti-toxin. Essentially, the toxin becomes the remedy and aff

the body’s response to that toxin in a positive way. Homeopathy is a type of medicine that is now more than 300 years old, so in some ways, LDI/LDA is nothing new.

Physicians can obtain pre-made dilutions of Bartonella, Borrelia and other microbes commercially or make their own using the patient’s bodily secretions that contain the microbes (such as saliva and nasal secretions). Effective remedies can be created in this way. We then test each patient on the different dilutions of the remedies until we find the one that will give the patient a mild immune system response, followed by symptomatic improvement, within a week or two. We basically tinker with the doses until we get it right.

Another way to make an LDI/LDA treatment is to collect live ticks and put them in a small amount of sterile water. Over the next few days, the ticks will secrete their saliva into the water. The saliva contains spirochetes, Mycoplasma, viruses and other microbes. From this, you can create a remedy. However, at this point, the tincture (which is called the "mother" tincture) is not safe to ingest.

To make the remedy, you would then dilute the tincture in distilled water using a 1:100 ratio; meaning, you would take one part of the mother tincture and add 100 parts sterile water to it, and then shake the mixture 50 times. The shaking is called succussion, and from this process, you would get what is called a "C1" homeopathic dilution. Then, you would make another, higher dilution by taking one part of the C1 mixture and diluting it with 100 parts distilled water, and that would be called a C2 dilution. Then, to make a C3 dilution, you would repeat this process again while using a micropore filter to eliminate all live particles of the organism. From this point on, all dilutions of the remedy will be sterile and suitable for use as a treatment.

We typically begin testing our patients at a C15 dilution, and we find that they typically need to start treatment at somewhere between the C6–C20 dilution range. The homeopathic dilutions become the antidote for the bugs, and they lead to enormous gains in healing.

Homeopathic remedies for Borrelia, Bartonella, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia and basically all of the "famous" bugs have so far been created and made available to practitioners, as well as remedies for molds such as Aspergillus.

When we downregulate the immune system with LDI, then the microbial killing compounds that we give our patients also become much more effective. The same is true for antibiotics. In fact, patients who haven’t responded well to antibiotics will often have a good response to them, once we finally downregulate their immune system with LDI and LDA. It’s a paradox that many of us in the medical community have observed.

Low-dose immunotherapy is a palatable way for medical doctors who don’t understand or want to do classical homeopathic treatments on their patients to use homeopathic medicine.

LDI Treatment Process

Oral LDI therapy involves taking the LDI homeopathic solution under the tongue, using 0.04 ml. of the solution, or 4/100th ml of the appropriate dilution. This usually downregulates the overactive immune response caused by the infections.

The treatment is very safe; commonly, patients’ symptoms will worsen for three to four days, but after that, they will have solid improvements that last for a few weeks. After the initial dose, we will give them another dose seven weeks later. After the second dose, they might have symptomatic improvement that lasts for two months. The third dose might provide improvements that last even longer. We find a rhythm for each patient, as everyone is somewhat different. Over time, we are able to determine when the patient’s system needs to be downregulated again.

This treatment is highly effective and can enable people who have been in a wheelchair for 20 years and/or who are highly dysfunctional, with lots of brain fog and other symptoms, to recover.

Note: At the time of the writing of this book, LDI was available via injection (as well as in oral form) in the United States; however, the remedies may only be available in oral form by the time this book goes to press, due to recent changes in FDA regulations.

The Double-Edged Sword of Antibiotic Therapy

Even though I rarely use antibiotics in my practice, I believe that long-term antibiotic therapy can be effective for treating Lyme disease because antibiotics have a little understood but welcome side effect in that they chelate heavy metals from the body. By removing heavy metals, antibiotics inactivate one of the protective mechanisms that microbes use to defend themselves from the immune system. Also, most antibiotics are immunosuppressive, so when you treat with these medications, you downregulate the overactive immune system while also detoxifying the body of heavy metals.

Yet, despite antibiotics’ benefits, I believe that there are much better and safer ways of detoxifying the body and downregulating the immune system. Antibiotics are a strategy that can get patients to the same endpoint as other treatments, but with the risk of many negative side effects. For instance, there’s a direct relationship between long-term antibiotic use and breast cancer, so medical practitioners should strive to treat Lyme without antibiotics. Many great Lyme doctors, such as William Lee Cowden, MD (who has helped to develop the NutraMedix herbal remedies) and Susan McKamish, ND (the creator of Beyond Balance herbal remedies) treat Lyme disease with herbal remedies. Many practitioners now recognize that antibiotics may not be necessary for healing their patients and have devised other ways to treat Lyme disease.

How to Accurately Diagnose Lyme Using Rolfing and PCR Testing

Another technique that we do at Sophia Health Institute is Rolfing. This is a type of deep-tissue massage that involves manipulating the connective tissue and fascia, and which positively affects the body’s posture and structure. Besides being a great treatment for the body, we have found Rolfing to be a useful adjunct tool for diagnosing infections, when it’s combined with PCR testing.

Twenty years ago, we used to do a lot of urine antigen testing for Lyme disease, and for a while, I did PCR testing. I later found PCR to be relatively insensitive and inadequate for diagnosing Lyme microbes because it detected the organisms less than 20 percent of the time; however, with the help of some friends, I discovered a strategy using Rolfing that now causes the organisms to show up in PCR test results nearly 100 percent of the time. This discovery has been revolutionary.

For this strategy, we have our patients do a one-hour Rolfing session. We focus the massage on the areas of the body where they are most symptomatic or holding patterns of disease. The massage helps to drive the microbes out of hiding in the tissues and into the bodily fl from where they enter the blood stream and are excreted via the kidneys into the urine. Here, they can then be detected using a variety of testing methods, including PCR. So we collect our patients’ first urine following their massage and send it to the lab for PCR analysis.

So far, nearly every one of our patients (all except two) has tested positive on the PCR test for at least two of the Lyme co-infections, and many other patients have had up to 8 of 14 possible infections detected on the test! Because most medical professionals can’t argue the validity of the PCR test (unlike other types of Lyme testing), this discovery has been revolutionary for us because it means that we now can use the PCR test reliably to diagnose Lyme disease. We can confirm the diagnosis in nearly every patient that has it. It’s a done deal. No government agency or insurance company should be able to argue or dispute the results, because PCR testing definitively reveals the presence of the organism in the body.

We do PCR testing through DNA Connexions, the old lab of Hal Huggins, DDS, which is in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The lab personnel have designed a wonderful Lyme disease PCR panel that can detect three different species of Borrelia as well as seven co-infection microbes, including various species of Bartonella, Babesia, Borrelia, Mycoplasma and more—all for $425. For more information on the lab, see: DNAConnexions.com.

Another benefit of deep-tissue massage is that it also causes microbes to become more susceptible to antimicrobial agents because it drives them out of their hiding places in the tissues. For this reason, we find that our patients who add massage to their protocols make huge leaps forward in their progress. When we combine massage with colon hydrotherapy and decent antimicrobial treatments like rizol oils, we can dramatically decrease the body’s microbial burden. These things, when done in conjunction with immune modulation therapy, can be a "home run" for treating Lyme disease.

Parasite Treatment: A Different, More Aggressive Approach

Many people with Lyme disease are highly infected with parasites, in addition to the commonly recognized Lyme infections, and these can be a major cause of symptoms. Parasites are one area of treatment where we use as much ammunition as possible to decrease the body’s burden of microbes, because parasites are tenacious and diffi to remove. So parasitic infections are the one condition for which I may give my patients drugs. In addition, we use diff forms of enema therapy, because many parasites are located in the gastrointestinal tract. It can sometimes take an entire year to treat just the parasites. When we do, we witness our patients pass large parasites in their feces, and at times, this process doesn’t ever seem to end. If we don’t do the parasite regimen just right, the parasites will outgrow it and reproduce faster than we are able to treat them. So this is one area of Lyme disease treatment that can be diffi lt.

Parasites need to be treated from both ends of the body. That means that patients need to do coffee enema therapy at the very least. There is also a Russian parasite treatment protocol involving enemas that I sometimes recommend. It’s called the "Gubarev protocol," and I am teaching other practitioners how to do it. For our basic parasite treatment steps, visit the KlinghardtAcademy.com site and do a search under "Parasite Treatment." I also have published an article on parasites in the May/June 2015 edition of Townsend Letter, which provides very useful information on this topic.

Another treatment that we use combines artemisinin and freezedried garlic in a rectal suppository called Nexus, which is available from BioPure. For more information on Nexus, see: BioPureUs.com.

Our oral parasite treatments include both plant-based and pharmaceutical agents. Mimosa pudica, which is a fern from Hawaii, along with freeze-dried fig extracts are two of my preferred natural remedies. These extracts are sweet-tasting powders that help to dramatically decrease the amount of parasites in the body. They are effective for treating roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms, among other types of parasites. We also use an extract of Chaga from Siberia, which comes from the Chaga mushroom, and freeze-dried garlic. These are my top natural anti-parasitic remedies. We know that our patients are finished with their treatments when they no longer have visible parasites in their stool.

At times, and as I already mentioned, we may use pharmaceutical drugs to treat the parasites, when the herbs are not enough. Ivermectin is my favorite antiparasitic medication. Every other microbe that is "downstream" from the parasites, such as molds, yeast and protozoa, can be treated solely with immune modulation and herbal remedies.

Unfortunately, we have found that the longer people have Lyme disease, the more parasites and species of parasites they will have in their bodies. They also will have a greater overall body burden of microbes. The trouble with parasites is that there is no reliable or adequate test anywhere in the United States for diagnosing all of the types of parasites that infect people. Frequently, our patients’ test results for parasites will come out negative, yet when they do a simple coffee enema, we discover that they have parasites, and not only in their stool. We have seen them come out of several other body orifices. Why the tests don’t work is a long story, but the sad truth is that parasites make many people with Lyme disease sick, and unfortunately, we have no accurate lab tests to detect them.

To diagnose parasites, I primarily use Autonomic Response Testing (ART) in addition to a technique that involves physically palpating the abdomen and liver. I learned the latter technique while practicing medicine in India. ART is a form of muscle-reflex testing that I developed and now teach to other practitioners. For years, I have also used ART as an adjunct technique for detecting Lyme disease infections because the lab test results would give us false-negative results, especially in the most chronic, persistent cases. However, now that we have an innovative new way of doing PCR testing, we can use this test to confirm what we already suspect via ART. And, I have found that the PCR test results often confirm the ART results. So for me, this discovery has been like getting to celebrate Christmas and my birthday at the same time!

Lifestyle Recommendations for Wellness

Wellness starts with clean water, air, food and exercise. Besides using the tools that I just described, I recommend doing all of the following:

  • Drinking water that is free of fluoride and other toxins
  • Purchasing a high-quality air filter for the house
  • Eating only organic food (which isn’t really clean, but which is cleaner than non-organic food). The best lifestyle change that you can make is to grow your own food. I think that as time goes on, this will become increasingly important, because even organic food now contains glyphosate. Get to know your farmers and how they are producing food. (For instructions about how to grow your own food, see Joe Mercola, MD’s site: Mercola.com, or the Natural News website: NaturalNews.com.)
  • Exercising daily, if possible.

Wellness really just comes down to these things, in addition to using the tools that I already have described. Additionally, I believe that the kind of bed that you sleep in is very important. Samina is the only brand that I recommend in the United States. It’s made of sheep’s wool and has a grounding pad woven into it. The material used for the bed absorbs body moisture at night and releases it into the environment during the day so that it doesn’t grow mold inside of it (unlike most commercial mattresses). And of course, the home needs to be shielded from electromagnetic pollution.

For mental wellness, I recommend minimizing the time that you spend on the computer and trying to work without being stressed. We all need to learn how to work and be productive. I realize that many people earn their living by working on the computer, but I advise spending as little time as possible on it, outside of work.

Besides these things, it is important to be on a regimen of vitamins and herbs that are based on your particular nutritional needs and test results.

As you recover and are able to get out and do more, I encourage you to find out what things in life bring you joy and do them. You need to find little opportunities to get out and about, and do things such as immersing yourself in nature.

Dietary Recommendations for Healing

There are times during the recovery process when it’s a good idea to eat a no-fat diet, just as there are also times when it’s a good idea to eat a high-protein or high-fat ketogenic diet. At still other times, it may be appropriate to eat a completely vegetarian diet because protein can fuel the very aggressive phase of Lyme disease.

We determine what kind of diet each of our patients needs to be on by doing lab tests and ART, and by observing their clinical response to different diets. These things enable us to discover pretty quickly what they need. The South Beach diet may be healthy for some people, but once you are ill, your dietary requirements need to be tailored to your specific needs and the phase of illness that you are in. For this reason, it’s a good idea to have your doctor test you to determine which diet is best for you.

The Role of Epigenetics in Healing

Epigenetics plays a fundamental role in disease and healing, in addition to everything else that I’ve just described. Epigenetics concerns how the body controls the transcription of our genes and our genome. If we have healthy gene transcription, then we are generally healthy. If our genes are blocked from being transcribed, or we have genes that we don’t need and which are being transcribed, then everything in the body goes "kaput."

Something that I’ve known for about 10 years now is that when people are traumatized through war, starvation, divorce or other factors, and the trauma happens before they have children, then the trauma or toxic exposure sets in motion epigenetic changes in their body and negatively affects how their DNA is methylated or de-methylated. It creates a mistake in gene transcription that then gets passed on to the next generation of their family, and then on to the next. More and more people then become progressively affected.

However, the main thing that sets these epigenetic changes in motion and which destroys or hurts our epigenetic gene regulation are environmental toxins. Our exposure to glyphosate and other organophosphates causes destructive changes in how our genes are read. These changes are then passed on to the next generation. We are currently in the third generation of people who have been damaged by toxins that got into our environment after World War II.

Honestly, I believe that chronic Lyme disease is the outcome of the convergence of two things: environmental triggers, which are the infections and toxins, and the precondition of patients and their epigenetics.

I find that most people with Lyme disease have led pretty clean lives. They tend to be yoga teachers, meditators, ministers and people who are health-conscious. Why is that? Perhaps it’s because they intuitively knew from the time of their conception that they were weaker than others and so were forced from early on in life to take care of themselves. Then at 20, 30 or 40 years of age, they break down from the weight of Lyme disease. Or perhaps it is their genetics and epimutations that make them more intelligent and yet more vulnerable to disease.

Yet, I’ve noticed that if you go back three generations in their families, you find that their ancestors were farmers or dentists who were introduced to herbicides and chemicals that they were told would not harm them. So perhaps it is here that we can often find the real root cause of symptomatic and asymptomatic Lyme disease. Our ancestors were exposed to microbes and toxins, which affected their DNA, and in turn made all of us in the subsequent generations susceptible to disease from these things.

Now, nearly everyone in the United States has chronic infections such as Lyme due to these factors. I would bet that if you took ten people who were asymptomatic, and had them undergo a Rolfing session and then complete the urine PCR test, many would test positive for Lyme. If they didn’t, then it’s probably because the Rolfer didn’t go deep enough into their tissues!

Environmental toxicity has screwed up the way that we methylate and de-methylate our genes, so the end result of this is that we are liberating viruses in our DNA, especially retroviruses that have been silenced in the DNA for thousands for years. We are also liberating pro-cancer genes and genes that make us neurologically ill. And we are silencing genes that we need to fight infections and which keep us from becoming chronically ill. This phenomenon has been going on for several generations now.

We are facing a mass disaster in the future. This is very clear to me. To make this a perfect storm, when you create these kinds of methylation changes in one generation, that means that the following generation will also be affected by the same epimutations, and then the people in that generation will themselves be exposed to even greater amounts of toxins. And so the cycle goes.

Some biologists estimate that we are only one to two generations away from having mass infertility in our population; that is the ultimate outcome of all this. The family line dies out, and if you want to amplify and accelerate that process, you throw in some aluminum and glyphosate to get a perfect storm that will cripple entire populations, making them dysfunctional, unmotivated and sterile.

The vaccine and weather modification programs that are currently being conducted are also damaging, no matter how honorable the people involved in them may be. I am not against vaccines, but some of the ingredients that are added to them are harmful to the body, and they should, therefore, not be used. However, I believe that in the future, there will be better ways to make vaccines safe for everyone.

In any case, I believe that it is the epigenetic changes in our bodies that are weakening our immune systems and causing us to become vulnerable to Lyme infections, but that’s just one side of things.

The Effects of Manipulating Microbes and the Environment

Fifteen to twenty years ago, research showed that the syphilis organism had 20–30 genes (which is very evolved for a microbe), and it was initially thought that the Borrelia organism had just a few more. Then, researchers believed that it had 137 genes. Recently, however, some of my German colleagues spent over $80,000 euros to crack the Borrelia spirochete genome. They took ticks from the East Coast of the United States and brought them back home to their lab in Germany. They isolated the spirochetes from them and found that the Borrelia-like organism that they tested actually had over 600 genes. Normal bacteria have anywhere from 6 to 15 genes. But 600 genes? The high number caused the researchers to suspect that Borrelia was a man-made organism that was created in a lab. This may be one reason why Lyme is so difficult to treat.

Although I think that there may be a not-so-nice plan behind it all, some of the things that are happening to make people sick today are accidental, unwanted and a natural outcome of the toxic world that we live in. In the end, we’re making the planet toxic, which in turn is making us toxic and changing our genes so that we become less able to live. The microbes are "taking us back." That’s what I see. My work is counter-evolutionary because I’m standing in the way of the agenda, trying to help save a few people.

There are more ticks today than ever before, and they are moving westward, but it’s rare for my patients to have a tick bite history. Most of the time, they recall flea, spider, mosquito or lice bites, or simply no bite at all. So, it doesn’t matter if ticks are moving westward. If you go into the forest, you can avoid getting a tick bite, but you can’t easily protect yourself from flea or mosquito bites. Fleas bite cats and dogs, and when they get bored with cat blood or dog blood, they then bite us and infect us with Borrelia spirochetes and all kinds of other microbes. So I’m convinced that it’s the epigenetic changes that have been set in motion in our bodies by continuous exposure to agrochemicals that have caused us to become susceptible to Lyme. Our systems have been poisoned and weakened.

Parallel to this are the eff of climate change upon our bodies and the environment. Insects are proliferating like never before. The aluminum in the persistent contrails rains down on us and is (along with the agrochemicals) eliminating over time all of the higher evolved species: mammals, birds, bees and so on. If you weaken the microbiome of the earth and, ultimately, the higher animal species, then pathogens will proliferate. The trees also get sick as a result of having to "suck up" a lot of aluminum. There is a devolution in place that is fostering the growth of less evolved microbes. Even within the kingdom of microbes, the good or beneficial ones are dying, and along with that, the microbiome of the earth is dying. And, the higher up on the food chain that you go, the greater number of species there are that are becoming extinct.

Everyone feels, and some know, that we are at an endpoint, and we all need to wake up.

Environmental Toxicity and the Incidence of Neurological Disease in the USA Compared to Other Countries

The results of a study that came out in early 2015 showed that the incidence of death among women with neurological diseases in the United States has increased 663 percent over the past 20 years. Not only that, but the United States has the highest rate of neurological disease in the world, exponentially so. This is caused by the unfortunate combination of this nation’s exposure to microbes and toxins such as glyphosate and aluminum.

The country with the second highest rate of neurological disease may be Germany, which has the highest rate of glyphosate use in the world. However, persistent contrails, which are visible trails left in the sky by airplanes that spray chemicals into the atmosphere for weather modification purposes and which contain toxins (such as aluminum) that are making people sick, are more abundant in Western Europe than in the United States.

In general though, European countries have historically used fewer environmental toxins than the United States, and consequently, these countries have a lower incidence of neurological disease. For example, Germany, Austria, Italy and Hungary are much cleaner than the United States, and the food in Germany is richer in minerals. In the United States, it’s a catastrophe, because of the lack of soil micronutrients. In the US, it used to be that you could bite into a peach and it would taste fl and rich; now you bite into a peach and it’s basically tasteless.

Latin America also currently seems to be environmentally cleaner than the United States. However, published research in a U.S.-funded study showed that when glyphosate was sprayed on communities in Ecuador, there was an increase in the rates of cancer and neurological disease. These were just two of many observations made by the researchers. But in general, South America, especially Brazil, Chile, Peru and Argentina, are among the cleanest places to live right now in terms of glyphosate and aluminum contamination. These places used to have the least amount of chemical spraying. However, the areas in Brazil that have the highest incidence of microcephaly in newborn babies seem to coincide inconveniently with those areas where there has recently been an experimental spraying of new herbicides.

Despite all of the problems that we’re facing, I believe that there are no mistakes in the universe when you look at things from God’s perspective. The God that I know is powerful, and these things would not be happening if it were not for the purpose of maturing our souls. So I feel "light" about things. And, what’s important to me is helping people to heal, so I focus on that. In the end, we’re only supposed to figure out what our role is in helping others and the good that we’re supposed to do in the world.

Final Words

I wholeheartedly believe that you can heal from Lyme disease. Based on what I’ve seen, I don’t believe that it’s possible or necessary to completely eliminate every spirochete or organism in your body. In fact, the organisms are willing and able to become a productive and welcome part of our own microbiome. However, I do know that it is possible for most Lyme-affected persons to become completely asymptomatic and end up living productive, joyful and beautiful lives.
