June Supplement of the Month + Tomorrow’s News, Today!

For this Supplement of the Month, I’m bringing you some of tomorrow’s news, today. Impossible, you say? Well, I’m not kidding. I’ve been reading through a new book we are about to publish – a book which contains interviews with 10 top Lyme doctors. You can’t buy this book until later this summer. But, I’m going to share with you some secrets from the book right now!

First, I’ll share this month’s Supplement of the Month, then we’ll see how that supplement fits into the above-mentioned book.

This month’s Supplement of the Month is Beyond Balance MC-BAR-1I really like this supplement, and it’s been one of the most helpful to me for this specific Lyme co-infection.

Note about purchasing the product: When you purchase the product using the link above, you will need to call Forrest Health to get a free password to use when ordering. It’s an easy process that I’ve done a number of times, don’t let it deter you. Also, be advised that Beyond Balance, the manufacturer of the product, recommends that you be under the care of a licensed doctor if you decide to use this stuff, so please don’t start any new treatments until you’ve cleared them with your licensed medical practitioner. Remember that I myself (Bryan Rosner, the author of this article) am not a doctor, I’m just a Lyme survivor reporting my experiences and research. If you would like to have a medical consultation with Dr. Steven Forrest, the owner of Forrest Health, you may request one by calling (408) 354-4262. Tell them Bryan Rosner sent you and you’ll get 20% off the consultation!

The Beyond Balance family of supplements includes numerous products to choose from, as you’ll see when you visit the above page and activate the pull-down menu. You’ll find out that many people, including the esteemed Scott Forsgren, agree with me on the value of this brand (Scott lists this brand at the top of his list of favorite anti-microbial supplements).

You and I have always known that different supplements affect the body differently, right? Well, it’s time to get back to tomorrow’s news today. In Connie Strasheim’s new book, coming out later this summer, one of the doctors she interviews is Dr. Raj Patel, of Medical Options for Wellness Clinic in Redwood City, California. Here’s an excerpt from the not-yet-published book, with his explanation of how these supplements differ from each other, and even some wisdom on how to use them. I told you I’d be bringing you tomorrow’s news today 🙂 You can sign up to be notified when Connie’s new book is published here, and you can see Connie’s other Lyme disease books here and here.

Now, without further ado, here’s the book excerpt. Notice that Dr. Patel talks specifically about our supplement of the month, MC-BAR-1, which you can order from the above link (next to the product picture in the box). I just love the way this doctor explains things:

To treat these common Lyme disease infections in my patients, I will use any of the following approaches: 1) exclusively herbal remedies 2) herbal remedies in combination with antibiotics or 3) exclusively antibiotics. My choice of regimen depends upon the needs and preferences of the patient.

The herbal formulations that I use include those by Byron White (ByronWhiteFormulas.com), NutraMedix (Nutramedix.com) and Beyond Balance (BeyondBalanceInc.com), among others. Each of these formulations has a certain “personality” that works well for different situations.

For instance, the Beyond Balance formulas are really effective and have a “softer” touch upon the body, so most people, even those who are sensitive tolerate them well. The Byron White formulas work more like antibiotics because they have more of an antimicrobial effect and less of an immune-modulating “personality.”  I frequently mix and match the formulas, according to patients’ needs.

I’ve found that there’s an inherent order that the body wants to follow when treating infections, so I attempt to prioritize those infections that need to be treated first. Treating all of them at once can overwhelm patients. By treating infections in this way, things flow easier and people recover faster.

In general, the infection that is currently producing the most dominant symptoms is at the top and should be treated first.  So, for instance, if I have a Lyme patient with recurrent flu-like symptoms and canker sores, then I know that viral infections are at the top of the priority list and need to be treated first. Or, if a patient has an extensive history of foreign travel, then I may go after parasites, before I target the Lyme-related infections. I typically find, among the Lyme-related microbes, that it’s best to treat Ehrlichia and Borrelia after Babesia and Bartonella, and to treat any Mycoplasma and Chlamydia infections at the very end of the treatment process. However, there are many exceptions to this rule.

Most of my patients do best when I start them out on low dosages of the herbal remedies and/or antibiotics and then work them up slowly to higher dosages. I know many doctors will not agree with this approach, but I find that it works well across the board, as long as there are no other major complicating issues such as mold, that need to be addressed.

So for instance, if I am using one of the stronger formulations like Bar-2 or A-Myco, I might start my patients out on a dosage that is as low as one-half drop once weekly, and then increase that over time. Often, my patients will look at me with skepticism when I recommend that they take a half a drop of a remedy, once weekly.  Yet invariably, they come back at their next visit, marveling at the Herx reaction that they had from just that half-drop and which lasted for several days.  If I am using a formulation that is easier to tolerate, such as MC-Bab1™, MC-Bar-1™ or MC-Bab-2™, then I may start patients out on one drop twice daily, and then increase that dosage fairly rapidly over time.

By proceeding in this way, not only am I able to target several infections at once but my patients also have less intense detoxification reactions and experience more consistent progress. As a general rule, people should see consistent improvements in their symptoms every two to three months. They should be able to look back over time and discern that they are making progress.  If not, this usually means that a particular treatment is not working or there’s another problem in the body that we need to address first.

In general, I believe that most patients are treated too aggressively, which results in them becoming overwhelmed and toxic. I think that as doctors, we are all guilty at times of giving in to patients’ demands of “Get me well, fast!” But going slow and aggressively supporting the drainage of toxins from the body, in my experience, allows patients to get well more consistently with less severe Herx reactions. Even though I treat my patients more slowly than most doctors, I find that if I’ve addressed all of their other health issues that may be stressing their immune systems, then they recover very nicely from the infections.

[Please be aware that this excerpt is still in rough draft format and hasn’t yet been finalized as a completed text; the final publication date will be later this summer]

So, that’s it for this month’s Supplement of the Month! Today you got some of tomorrow’s news before it has been released to the general public, and you got some great tips on how various Lyme supplements compare to each other. Remember though, that Beyond Balance supplements are powerful and are intended only to be used under the care of a licensed doctor.

For those of you who have just recently subscribed to my Anti-Lyme Journal, welcome! You can read all the back-issues of the Journal right now, by clicking on this link.

I wish everyone a wonderful June! Stay tuned… my next post will have some pretty important information in it… coming soon. (Hint – we’ll be talking about these products – you’ll notice they are joint-related supplements, but we’ll find out why they do so much more!)

PS – You’ll notice on the ordering page that there are a number of other Beyond Balance supplements available in the pull-down menu. I like these supplements too! But I haven’t used all of them, and I only like to pick Supplement of the Month for products I’ve personally used. If you and your doctor use or explore these other choices, please report back to us with your results, in the comments section below. Thanks!
