Human ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis are acute febrile tick-borne diseases caused by various species of the genera Ehrlichia and Anaplasma (Anaplasmataceae). To date, only cases of human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA) caused by Anaplasma phagocytophilum (formerly human granulocytic Ehrlichia, Ehrlichia phagocytophila, and E. equi) have been diagnosed in Europe. HGA and Lyme borreliosis are closely related diseases that share vector and reservoirs. In addition to HGA, human monocytic ehrlichiosis caused by E. chaffeensis has been reported in North America, as well as cases of infection due to E. ewingii in immunocompromised hosts. Ehrlichia spp. and A. phagocytophilum have tropism for blood cells, especially leukocytes and platelets, causing a considerable decrease of both components in these patients. HGA should be suspected in tick-bitten patients or those who have visited an endemic area and show symptoms of flu-like fever, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia.

The European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) is a common insectivore in most parts of Europe and is frequently infested by the ticks Ixodes ricinus and I. hexagonus. I. ricinus ticks have been found infected withAnaplasma phagocytophilum, an obligate intracellular bacterium, but little is known about the potential of the hedgehog as a reservoir host. In this study, the infection with A. phagocytophilum and the genetic variants involved were investigated in a captive hedgehog population which was kept in a fenced, natural grass and bush garden habitat, and also in its ticks. Additionally hedgehogs from hedgehog caretaking stations were investigated.

A contributor to food allergies/sensitivities has emerged, tick bites. This is a great piece of detective work and seems to not affect B or AB blood groups, as much as Type A or O.

“Scott Commins, an assistant professor of medicine and lead author of the U-Va. Study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, said that in susceptible people such as Newell, a tick bite that causes a significant skin reaction seems to trigger the production of an antibody that binds to a sugar present on meat called alpha-galactosidase, also known as alpha-gal. When a person who has the antibody eats meat, it triggers the release of histamine, which causes the allergic symptoms: hives, itching and, in the worst case,alpha-galactosidase.”

Of course today with our epidemic of autoimmune disease and leaky gut and low level infections like Chlamydia and CMV in almost everyone, these elevated antibodies to something or even auto-antibodies are very common and may be more dangerous than widely appreciated.

I still encourage those of you who are sensitive to so many foods to understand that leaky gut is epidemic today. I am convinced GMO foods are a contributor, as they introduce Bacillus Theringensis into our bodies, which are now detectible in the blood stream of patients! Bt then causes Dysbiosis.
