Folate & Nutritional Status – with Comments by Dr. Gordon

Dr. Gordon’s Comments:

5’MTHF issues are much more complex than is generally recognized, so normal test results can mean nothing. Whatever you knew until today is not enough to protect your patients and loved ones.

The attached NEJM article from July 9 adds considerable likelihood that when someone tells you that the patient’s nutritional status is just fine, they very likely may be dead wrong. The patient suffers seizures and mental disorders that fail to respond to anything because you had not read the attached, which found that the level of folic acid was fine everywhere except in the cerebral spinal fluid. Now they can explain what is going on and it amenable to proper folate treatment, as found in Beyond B-12 sublingual tablets available only from Longevity Plus.

Excerpt:

In infantile-onset cerebral folate deficiency, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5MTHF) levels in the cerebrospinal fluid are low, but folate levels in the serum and erythrocytes are normal. We examined serum specimens from 28 children with cerebral folate deficiency, 5 of their mothers, 28 age-matched control subjects, and 41 patients with an unrelated neurologic disorder. Serum from 25 of the 28 patients and 0 of 28 control subjects contained high-affinity blocking autoantibodies against membrane-bound folate receptors that are present on the choroid plexus.

Bartonella in Italy

Excerpt:

 A PCR assay
specific for the Bartonella 16S rRNA gene was carried out on DNA samples
extracted from blood of the 234 cats; 26 (11.1%) of the seropositive
cats were positive. Two PCR protocols, which discriminate genotypes I
and II of B. henselae, were performed on all DNA samples. Sixteen (6.8%)
cats were infected by genotype I, 6 (2.5%) by genotype II, and two males
(0.8%) by both genotypes. Two female (0.8%) cats which were Bartonella
sp. PCR positive, gave negative results with the types I and II PCR.
This protocol facilitates the direct and rapid detection of Bartonella
DNA in feline blood samples, and differentiates B. henselae genotypes.

DHEA – Important Information from Dr. Gordon & Dr. Mercola

Linda’s comment:  I’m now taking DHEA and it makes a   difference in how I feel…. I will be 68 yrs old in September and feel DHEA is now a must in my daily supplement routine…

Dr. Gordon’s Comments: I find DHEA is useful and I have taken it for years, 50 mg a day. We always need to learn more about it to avoid side effects and achieve the optimal dose. One study showed cancer patients survive far longer if they receive DHEA and oral melatonin.

This link provides useful information on DHEA, which is an extremely useful hormone that most of us will want to be taking at some point in life depending on your blood tests results. I do not feel that I need to bother to take this in a topical form, as this article recommends, but for many other hormones like testosterone and progesterone topical administration can be very useful.

Supplementing With THIS Hormone Can Lead to Tumors and Insomnia

Before I begin this article I want to state very clearly that hormones are not my primary specialty. I have used them clinically but I found the science quite controversial, so this is a summary as I best understand it.

If you are a clinician with considerable experience in this area I invite you to present your views to update the information on DHEA.

Do Borrelia and Babesia coexist in ticks?

Linda’s comment:   Single ticks were investigated by polymerase chain reaction and restriction
fragment length polymorphism or sequencing for Borrelia spp. (ospA gene) and Babesia spp. (18S rRNA gene). Overall, 27.0% (270/1000) were infected with Borrelia species. Out of these, Borrelia garinii was detected most frequently.  Now what is it going to take to get more doctors educated on this?  Lyme disease has become a world-wide epidemic, which the CDC and IDSA refuse to recognize….<sigh>

Excerpt:

Babesia
spp.-specific DNA was detected in 5.0% of ticks. Babesia microti
was slightly more prevalent
(28/50) than Babesia divergens (20/50). Moreover, 5.9% (16/270)
of Borrelia spp.-infected ticks were coinfected with Babesia spp.
Knowledge on the degree of heterogeneity of Borrelia species and
OspA types is prerequisite not only for local risk assessment,
but also for diagnostic test and vaccine development.

Lyme: a multi-system illness

LINDA’S COMMENT:  Lyme disease is a vector-borne multisystem inflammatory disease caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato.  So many folks suffer from peripheral nerve palsy.

Lyme disease is a vector-borne multisystem inflammatory disease
caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato. This
disease is frequently seen in North America and to a lesser
degree in Europe. However, its presence in England is uncommon
and we present a case in which the patient developed a palsy of
the common peroneal nerve.

Toxins in food crops – with comments from Dr. Gordon

Linda’s comments:  ListenUP folks….IF YOU DON’T LOWER YOUR TOTAL BODY BURDEN OF PATHOGENS AND TOXINS, you can’t get well….this is a VERY important post from Dr Gordon… I don’t know what it is going to take to get people’s heads wrapped around the GMO dangers??

Dr. Gordon’s comments:

Which is worse lead/mercury accumulations, toxins like this building up in everyone or loss of the electromagnetic field of the earth that we require for efficient metabolism? Or let’s forget which is worse and have a FIGHT program to deal with all of this and more.

But please know that in my mind Monsanto is getting away with murder. All this gluten intolerance and food sensitivities are Leaky gut related and that ties to the Bacillus Theringensis we all now have thanks to GM modified foods we all cannot escape. This is from Dr. Mercola’s link.

“Cry1Ab, a specific type of Bt toxin from genetically modified (GM) crops, has for the first time been detected in human and fetal blood samples. It appears the toxin is quite prevalent, as upon testing 69 pregnant and non-pregnant women who were eating a typical Canadian diet (which included foods such as GM soy, corn and potatoes), researchers found Bt toxin in:

*93 percent of maternal blood samples
*80 percent of fetal blood samples
*69 percent of non-pregnant women blood samples

Writing in the journal Reproductive Toxicology, the researchers noted:

“This is the first study to reveal the presence of circulating PAGMF [pesticides associated with genetically modified foods] in women with and without pregnancy, paving the way for a new field in reproductive toxicology including nutrition and utero-placental toxicities.”

This GM insecticide toxin is already showing up in fetal blood, which means it could have an untold impact on future generations.

Bt Toxin is a Built-In Pesticide
Upwards of 85 percent of U.S. corn crops contain a special gene added that allows them to produce an insecticide. This way, when bugs attempt to eat the corn they’re killed right away (specifically their stomach is split open) because the plant contains an invisible, built-in pesticide shield.

The particular gene added to most corn crops is a type of Bt-toxin — produced from Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria. Genetic engineers remove the gene that produces the Bt in bacteria and insert it into the DNA of corn (and cotton) plants.”

GM Insecticide Poisons Also Showing Up in Waterways
Given that Bt toxin has now been confirmed in the human bloodstream, it should come as no surprise that it has also infiltrated the environment. According to one study, 50 of the 217 streams, ditches and drains near cornfields that researchers tested were found to contain Cry1Ab above six nanograms per liter.

The protein is getting into the waterways via corn stalks, leaves, husks and cobs that blow into the water — a phenomenon that’s incredibly common since farmers often leave such material in fields to help minimize soil erosion.

Dr. Gordon comments on magnesium

Linda comments:  Magnesium is so very important to all of us and especially those with chronic illness.  Dr Garry Gordon, DO, MD, MD(h)  speaks about levels and requirements…

A: Dear Doctor:

It appears to me that one mg of MAGNESIUM is so low as to not be meaningful. I am sending you the Google link so you can do your own analysis but I like to administer LOTS of magnesium; for example, 500 mg to one gram so that appears to require several ampoules. I suggest that you give 4 to 8 ampoules. You can now calculate the calcium but I always prefer a little bit more magnesium than calcium in my patients oral and even in IV.

Can ticks transmit Bartonella?

linda’s comment: Bartonella spp. are facultative intracellular vector-borne bacteria associated with several emerging diseases in humans and animals all over the world.  Lyme disease is being carried by all kinds of animals, like mosquitoes, fleas, knats, flies, etc., etc., etc.

Excerpt:

 Histochemical staining
showed the presence of bacteria in salivary glands and muscle tissues of
partially engorged adult ticks, which had molted from the infected nymphs.
These results confirm the vector competence of I. ricinus for B.
birtlesii and represent the first in vivo demonstration of a Bartonella
sp. transmission by ticks. Consequently, bartonelloses should be now
included in the differential diagnosis for patients exposed to tick bites.
