Birds carry a multitude of infections on island near Baltic Sea

Tick-borne pathogens such as Lyme borreliosis spirochaetes,
Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Rickettsia spp. and Babesia spp. cause
a great variety of diseases in animals and humans. Although their
importance with respect to emerging human diseases is increasing,
many issues about their ecology are still unclear. In spring
2007, 191 Ixodes ricinus (Acari: Ixodidae) ticks were collected
from 99 birds of 11 species on a bird conservation island in the
Baltic Sea in order to test them for Borrelia spp., A.
phagocytophilum, Rickettsia spp. and Babesia spp. infections.
Identification of the pathogens was performed by polymerase chain
reaction (PCR), restriction fragment length polymorphism and
sequence analysis. The majority of birds with ticks testing
positive were European robins and thrushes. Borrelia DNA was
detected in 14.1%, A. phagocytophilum in 2.6%, rickettsiae in
7.3% and Babesia spp. in 4.7% of the ticks. Co-infections with
different pathogens occurred in six ticks (3.1%). The fact that
11 ticks (five larvae, six nymphs) were infected with Borrelia
afzelii suggests that birds may, contrary to current opinion,
serve as reservoir hosts for this species. Among rickettsial
infections, we identified Rickettsia monacensis and Rickettsia
helvetica. As we detected five Rickettsia spp.
positive larvae and two birds carried more than one infected
tick, transmission of those pathogens from birds to ticks appears
possible.

Aspartame Dangers — Dr. Betty Martini, D.Hum.

Dear Jan and Laurel,

First regarding comments about Dr. John Olney, here is the Report For
Schools:  http://www.mpwhi.com/report_on_aspartame_and_children.htm
These are articles by the experts and toward the end you will see Dr.
Olney’s original study which showed that aspartic acid, 40% of the
aspartame molecule, caused holes in the brains of mice.  This is why
Dr. Olney tried to prevent approval. Continued

More than 1,000 exposed to dengue in Florida: CDC

Full article:  http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE66C65X20100713Excerpt:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Five percent of the population of Key West, Florida — more than 1,000 people — have been infected at some point with the dengue virus, government researchers reported on Tuesday.

Most probably did not even know it, but the findings show the sometimes deadly infection is making its way north into the United States, the researchers said.

“We’re concerned that if dengue gains a foothold in Key West, it will travel to other southern cities where the mosquito that transmits dengue is present, like Miami,” said Harold Margolis, chief of the dengue branch at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“These cases represent the reemergence of dengue fever in Florida and elsewhere in the United States after 75 years,” Margolis said in a statement.

“These people had not traveled outside of Florida, so we need to determine if these cases are an isolated occurrence or if dengue has once again become endemic in the continental United States.”

Dengue is the most common virus transmitted by mosquitoes, infecting 50 million to 100 million people every year and killing 25,000 of them.

It can cause classic flu-like symptoms but can also take on a hemorrhagic form that causes internal and external bleeding and sudden death. Companies are working on a vaccine but there is not any effective drug to treat it.

Person in CDC Vaccine Cover-Up Takes Off With $2M

Full article: Central Figure in CDC Vaccine Cover-Up Absconds With $2M

Excerpt:

A central figure behind the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) claims disputing the link between vaccines and autism and other neurological disorders has disappeared after officials discovered massive fraud involving the theft of millions in taxpayer dollars. Danish police are investigating Dr. Poul Thorsen, who has vanished along with almost $2 million that he had supposedly spent on research.

Thorsen was a leading member of a Danish research group that wrote several key studies supporting CDC’s claims that the MMR vaccine and mercury-laden vaccines were safe for children. Thorsen’s 2003 Danish study reported a 20-fold increase in autism in Denmark after that country banned mercury based preservatives in its vaccines. His study concluded that mercury could therefore not be the culprit behind the autism epidemic.

His study has long been criticized as fraudulent since it failed to disclose that the increase was an artifact of new mandates requiring, for the first time, that autism cases be reported on the national registry. This new law and the opening of a clinic dedicated to autism treatment in Copenhagen accounted for the sudden rise in reported cases rather than, as Thorsen seemed to suggest, the removal of mercury from vaccines. Despite this obvious chicanery, CDC has long touted the study as the principal proof that mercury-laced vaccines are safe for infants and young children. Mainstream media, particularly the New York Times, has relied on this study as the basis for its public assurances that it is safe to inject young children with mercury — a potent neurotoxin — at concentrations hundreds of times over the U.S. safety limits.

Human isolates of Bartonella tamiae induce pathology in experimentally inoculated immunocompetent mice

Excerpt:

Results

Following inoculation with B. tamiae, mice developed ulcerative skin lesions and subcutaneous masses on the lateral thorax, as well as axillary and inguinal lymphadenopathy. B. tamiae DNA was found in subcutaneous masses, lymph node, and liver of inoculated mice. Histopathological changes were observed in tissues of inoculated mice, and severity of lesions correlated with the isolate inoculated, with the most severe pathology induced by B. tamiae Th239. Mice inoculated with Th239 and Th339 demonstrated myocarditis, lymphadenitis with associated vascular necrosis, and granulomatous hepatitis and nephritis with associated hepatocellular and renal necrosis. Mice inoculated with Th307 developed a deep dermatitis and granulomas within the kidneys.

Conclusions

The three isolates of B. tamiae evaluated in this study induce disease in immunocompetent Swiss Webster mice up to 6 weeks after inoculation. The human patients from whom these isolates were obtained had clinical presentations consistent with the multi-organ pathology observed in mice in this study. This mouse model for B. tamiae induced disease not only strengthens the causal link between this pathogen and clinical illness in humans, but provides a model to further study the pathological processes induced by these bacteria.

Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Moving From South Asia to U.S.

A dangerous new mutation that makes some bacteria resistant to almost all antibiotics has become increasingly common in India and Pakistan and is being found in patients in Britain and the United States who got medical care in those countries, according to new studies.

Experts in antibiotic resistance called the gene mutation, named NDM-1, “worrying” and “ominous,” and they said they feared it would spread globally.

But they also put it in perspective: there are numerous strains of antibiotic-resistant germs, and although they have killed many patients in hospitals and nursing homes, none have yet lived up to the “superbug” and “flesh-eating bacteria” hyperbole that greets the discovery of each new one.

“They’re all bad,” said Dr. Martin J. Blaser, chairman of medicine at New York UniversityLangone Medical Center. “Is NDM-1 more worrisome than MRSA? It’s too early to judge.”

(MRSA, or methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, is a hard-to-treat bacterium that used to cause problems only in hospitals but is now found in gyms, prisons and nurseries, and is occasionally picked up by healthy people through cuts and scrapes.)

Pediatric Lyme Arthritis – more common than previously believed

Excerpt:

March 15, 2010 (New Orleans, Louisiana) — Almost half of children with fluid in the knee in the Northeastern United States are likely to have Lyme arthritis, according to a new study presented here at the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons 2010 Annual Meeting.

“In a pediatric population, Lyme arthritis is probably the first diagnosis to consider if you are in an endemic area,” Matthew D. Milewski, MD, from Yale–New Haven Children’s Hospital in Connecticut, told meeting attendees.

Connecticut has the highest rate of Lyme disease, but other areas of the United States are considered endemic, including the northeast from Maine to the mid-Atlantic states, Minnesota, Wisconsin and other Midwestern states, and Northern California.

Lyme arthritis is on the rise, increasing almost 100% in the past 15 years, according to data from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

Children are nearly twice as likely to develop arthritis with Lyme disease than adults, and also to have it as the initial manifestation. Distinguishing children who have Lyme arthritis from those who have septic arthritis can be a challenge in the emergency department (ED), but doing so is essential because their treatment is so different, Dr. Milewski said.

Contaminated Food – Message from Dr. Gordon

How many illnesses you are seeing are related to food poisoning?  Many more than you might suspect. So many people have low stomach acid and yet believe that they have excess acid and might be on Nexium to increase their likelihood of succumbing to tainted food with acute or chronic GI related symptoms.

This article suggests many more than we may suspect are suffering from contaminated food. This is a quote from this very informative article and granted Congress will not “get it right” when it comes to correcting this additional source of toxins in our patients. It will require my FIGHT program to recovery.

I know that probiotics help us overcome a toxic meal and that many need to carry something with them as a first response to symptoms of food poisoning. I suggest ACS silver but sometimes it is the ENDOTOXINS being released that tend to harm the patient so having lots of zeolite around either as ACZ and/or ZEOGOLD makes sense too. However, if we look at the epidemic of clostridia related illnesses today, please look at the 1200 references about the proven life-saving power of oral and/or IV Vitamin C in the book Curing the Incurable by Thomas Levy. Always this is dose related so that is why everyone needs some well tolerated and well absorbed vitamin C on hand at all times. BIOEN’R-G’Y C has the research to prove it does more gram for gram than any competing form of oral vitamin C you can obtain at any price anywhere.

If you are stuck and have no access to those products think garlic, as the liquid KYOLIC also is shown to decimate most pathogens.

This article makes it clear that YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED AT ALL TIMES!!

“families that were devastated by a food-borne illness. A great deal of harm, inflicted on some of the weakest members of society, can be avoided with a few simple reforms. Nobody should lose a child because the Senate lacks the will and the leadership to act.”

EVERY day, about 200,000 Americans are sickened by contaminated food. Every year, about 325,000 are hospitalized by a food-borne illness. And the number who are killed annually by something they ate is roughly the same as the number of Americans who’ve been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2003.

Those estimates, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suggest the scale of the problem. But they fail to convey the human toll. The elderly and people with compromised immune systems face an elevated risk from food-borne pathogens like listeria, campylobacter and salmonella. By far the most vulnerable group, however, are children under the age of 4. Our food will never be perfectly safe — and yet if the Senate fails to pass the food safety legislation now awaiting a vote, tens of thousands of American children will become needlessly and sometimes fatally ill.

Almost one year ago, the House of Representatives passed the Food Safety Enhancement Act with bipartisan support. A similar bill, the F.D.A. Food Safety Modernization Act, was unanimously approved by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in November. This legislation would grant the Food and Drug Administration, which has oversight over 80 percent of the nation’s food, the authority to test widely for dangerous pathogens and improve the agency’s ability to trace outbreaks back to their source. Most important, it would finally give the agency the power to order the recall of contaminated foods — and to punish companies that knowingly sell them.

USDA finds guinea pigs are more valuable than humans

**********I personally take one heaping teaspoon FOUR to FIVE TIMES daily of the BioEn’r-G’y C…..This RDA Dr Gordon is speaking of is totally WRONG.  My intake of this C is 4000 mg, 5 times daily.  For those of us with Chronic Illness, like Lyme disease and Cancers, taking this amount is a MUST, IMHO.  I can feel it when I cut down.  Of course, you will need to work up to the dosing I do, so that your bowels can reach tolerance, but will notice the difference in your health and especially allergies quickly.  I have Tom Levy MD’s book Curing the Incurable and it is an excellent read.  It truly helps you to connect the dots that the government doesn’t want you to connect.  I totally agree with Dr Gordon, we need to be ready to lobby to get equal rights with guinea pigs. Are we not already guinea pigs with the toxic drugs they force upon us??
Excerpt:
USDA finds guinea pigs are more valuable than humans so they set their RDA of Vit C at 10-25 mg per KGM so that means if humans were as valuable they would have an RDA of  820 to 2000 mg a day instead of the current 75  mg for women and 90 for men.

If we get this new health care plan let’s plan to lobby for us to get equal rights with guinea pigs.

This higher level of vitamin C going in all humans would save billions each year in needless healthcare costs. See Tom Levy MD’s book CURING THE INCURABLE; you need a copy in your office today. The 1200 references make your recommending BioEn’R-G’y C at one slightly heaping tsp no less than twice a day (providing 8 grams a day) something that there is a reference for in this useful compendium of vitamin C research papers by him.

RDA for Vitamin C is 10% of USDA Standard for Guinea Pigs

Are You Healthier than a Lab Animal?
Comment by Andrew W. Saul
Editor-In-Chief, Orthomolecular Medicine News Service

(OMNS, Feb 4, 2010) The US RDA for vitamin C for humans is only 10% of the government’s vitamin C standards for Guinea pigs.

Wait a minute; that cannot possibly be true.

Can it?

The US Department of Agriculture states that “the Guinea pig’s vitamin C requirement is 10-15 mg per day under normal conditions and 15-25 mg per day if pregnant, lactating, or growing.” (1)

Bartonella quintana in body lice and head lice from homeless persons

Bartonella quintana is a bacterium that causes trench fever in humans. Past reports have  shown Bartonella spp. infections in homeless populations in San Francisco, California,  USA. The California Department of Public Health in collaboration with San Francisco  Project Homeless Connect initiated a program in 2007 to collect lice from the homeless to  test for B. quintana and to educate the homeless and their caregivers on prevention and  control of louse-borne disease. During 2007–2008, 33.3% of body lice–infested persons  and 25% of head lice–infested persons had lice pools infected with B. quintana strain  Fuller. Further work is needed to examine how homeless persons acquire lice and  determine the risk for illness to persons infested with B. quintana–infected lice.
