Opinion: A Health Epidemic That’s Going Largely Unnoticed

(May 28) — We’re in the midst of a terrifying epidemic, although you wouldn’t know it to talk to most doctors and health specialists.

The disease is growing at a rate faster than AIDS. From 2006 to 2008 alone, the number of cases jumped a whopping 77 percent. In 2008 alone, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed 28,921 “confirmed” and 6,277 “probable” cases of the disease, but there could be as many as 420,000 because of underreporting.

Prominent victims include Parker Posey, Richard Gere, President George W. Bush, Alice Walker and Christie Brinkley.

If any other disease had stricken so many people, the medical community would be scurrying for knowledge, scrambling for cures or rushing to warn patients (think swine flu).

But that’s not the case with Lyme disease — a disease carried by ticks.

Instead, ill-informed doctors are often flummoxed when patients complain of fatigue, headaches, fever or chills, muscle or joint pain, mental confusion, swollen lymph nodes and neurological symptoms. It’s an appalling display of indifference.

As Lyme Disease Awareness Month comes to a close and Memorial Day travelers flock to grassy, tick-infested holiday spots across America, vacationers and physicians alike need to be on the alert for freckle-sized menaces that are responsible for the fastest-growing, most misdiagnosed infectious disease in the country. The CDC has a map that shows where the ticks are most prevalent.

For my part, I was lucky because my smart nutritionist friend, JJ Virgin, immediately grew suspicious when, almost overnight, I became an exhausted, headache-ridden, nightmare-plagued, memory-challenged zombie suffering from vertigo, sleeping problems, swollen glands, achy eyes, sensitivity to light and noise, fever, chills and a sore neck.

Copper research

Copper is essential for many functions. This is a new one; healthier prions with less risk of prion diseases. It seems that it stabilizes Prions. This means they are less likely to misfold or aggregate when copper is present.

Low levels of copper have been tied to arrhythmias and many other health problems. It is best to NOT restrict copper unless there is proven copper excess, and serum copper is merely a reflection of inflammation and does not reveal elevated copper levels in the tissues.

Dr Klinghardt’s research on Kryptopyroluria is leading to exciting clinical benefits in some patients who were diagnosed with Lyme or Autism or related neurodegenerative problems.
Aggressive zinc supplementation will impair copper absorption leading to deficiencies with many possible symptoms and significance health risks.

Johnson & Johnson Paid Millions In Kickbacks To Boost Sales

Linda’s comments:  Sorry folks, but this is CRIMINAL in my book.  How sickening of Johnson and Johnson for the sake of the bottom-line.  Diet/Nutrition, vitamins, herbals and supplements would work without drugging these poor folks…Wouldn’t you want your mom, dad, grandma to be healthy in their final days, instead of drugged beyond recognition.  Nursing homes like hospitals and other institutions take kickbacks to save their bottom-line.  THIS IS CRIMINAL…this needs to be stopped.

Mercury, new shocking findings

Linda’s comment:  This is a GREAT list compiled by Dr Michael…They are finding moe and more things with Mercury.  Everyone puts focus on vaccines, however Mercury is everywhere, including our foods…..Corn syrup, fish, the list goes on and on…..check out this web site >>>>>
http://www.healthobservatory.org/library.cfm?refID=105040 <<<<list of 55 brand names containing Mercury!!   Any foods that contain high fructose corn syrup   has mercury in it.  HFCS is found in so many things, including some yogurts, salad dressings, cereals, sodas, and countless sweets favored by children.  Here is another good web site on the dangers of Mercury>>>>

http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxprofiles/phs46.html….. Here are some human exposures that are important….. http://www.epa.gov/hg/exposure.htm…

How many of you buy your children those cute shoes with flashing lights?  Or those cute clothes with flashing lights.  Every time those lights flash your child is getting a shot of mercury!!  I ask myself,  WHAT IS THE INDUSTRY THINKING WHEN THEY LOAD OUR CHILDREN’S CLOTHES WITH MERCURY????  Is money that important?? We the consumer need to stand up and SAY NO MORE!!

When you read information like I have supplied you above and below, it should scare you enough to focus on detoxing these toxins from your body.  Everyday you walk out your front door you are getting slammed with 500 to 600 environmental toxins.  A lifelong daily detox is vital to your health and well being.

I have been on the FIGHT program for 1 1/2 years now and I thank God daily that I have had this experience.  Those of us with chronic illness need to detox daily or we will never get well.

Inflammation Linked to Increased Cognitive Decline in Alzheimer’s Disease

It would have been nice to test these patients for environmental toxins and also to see how high their heavy metals were??  Simple way to regulate and determine if metal toxicity has an effect on the cognitive decline?

Perhaps someday the conventional docs will get on the band wagon with the alternative world and begin searching for the “cause” and stop treating symptoms??!!

Dr. Daniel Mikol discusses the findings from the multicenter REGARD study.Click here.September 11, 2009 — A new study finds a link between systemic inflammation and increased cognitive decline in patients with established Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

In this study, both acute and chronic inflammation, which were in turn associated with increased serum levels of proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), were associated with an increase in the rate of cognitive decline in patients with mild to severe AD.
“The role of TNF-α within the brain is controversial, with evidence supportive of both deleterious and protective effects,” the authors, led by Clive Holmes, MRCPsych, PhD, from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, conclude. “However, if systemic inflammation has different [central nervous system] consequences depending on the existing relative activation state of the central innate immune system, dampening down systemic TNF-α may prove to be beneficial in AD.”
Their report is published in the September 8 issue of Neurology.

change your body dramatically. Owens has a
master’s degree in holistic nutrition and a bachelors degree in kinesiology.

1. HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP: HFCS is the number one source of calories for most Americans and causes obesity.

You’ll find high-fructose corn syrup (GMO) in processed food, fast food, sodas, syrup that goes into your Latte, etc.

HFCS is extremely toxic to your liver, increases inflammation, causes obesity, oxidative stress and creates an aggressive insulin response.

2. PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS (TRANS FATS):
Partially hydrogenated oils are found in thousands of processed foods (breakfast cereals, cookies, chips).

Trans fats are proven to cause heart disease and contribute to obesity.

Restaurant food, especially from fast food chains, often serve food loaded with trans fats.

Consequences of a diet high in trans fats include:
* increased inflammation
* decreased immune function
* decreased testosterone
* Arthritis
* Cancer
* Decrease IQ – learning disabilities.
American IQ has dropped 20 points in the past 20 years.
* Diabetes
* Elevated blood pressure
* Free radical production
* Heart Disease
* Interferes with neurological & visual development of fetus
* Liver damage
* Obesity
* Osteoporosis
* Type II diabetes
3. MSG: Monosodium glutamate is a chemical that has been associated with reproductive disorders, migraine headaches, permanent damage to the endocrine system leading to obesity and other serious disorders.

MSG is used in many foods as a taste enhancer. It is linked to reduced fertility.

4. SODIUM NITRATE: This is a preservative, coloring, and flavoring commonly added to bacon, ham, hot dogs, luncheon meats, smoked fish and corned beef.

Studies have linked eating it to various types of cancer. Continued
